Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

Incredible, just like the “Red Notice”
Revisado: 09-14-23
I have the utmost respect for Bill Browder for standing up to someone like Putin. His sacrifice and obsession towards getting at least a little justice for Sergei Magnitsky is truly commendable. Bill has a real talent on keeping the listener engaged in the story. The only small thing I wasn’t a big fan of were Adam Grupper’s attempts at accents, but it’s really a small nuisance. Other than that, this is another excellent book that I couldn’t put down.

Historia
Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success - and survival - is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst and enjoy every moment of it.

Meh…
Revisado: 03-10-23
Chris may be a great astronaut, pilot, engineer, etc. he may not be a great writer, author and narrator this book is quite boring. Even the tense moments in this book feels drawn out and bland. Plain oats with water bland. I had to rewind multiple times just to realize that something Chris was trying to make into a big deal was actually something quite minute. His personal story is interesting but not a “I’ll write a whole book” interesting, but maybe “about me” on a personal webpage interesting.

Historia
In late March 1944, as Stalin’s forces push into Ukraine, young Emil and Adeline Martel must make a terrible decision: Do they wait for the Soviet bear’s intrusion and risk being sent to Siberia? Or do they reluctantly follow the wolves - murderous Nazi officers who have pledged to protect “pure-blood” Germans? The Martels are one of many families of German heritage whose ancestors have farmed in Ukraine for more than a century.

Skip!
Revisado: 12-02-22
If you’re looking for the same experience as BSS, you can skip this one. A couple hours in this is a completely different book. Religion and “capitalism good, socialism bad” is constantly shoved down your throat. Not to mention that it’s simply boring. Audible is clearly only showing positive reviews. I bought this on sale and still feel like I wasted my money.

Historia
In 1968 Donald Crowhurst was trying to market a nautical navigation device he had developed and saw the Sunday Times Golden Globe 'round the world sailing race as the perfect opportunity to showcase his product. Few people knew that he wasn't an experienced deep-water sailor. His progress was so slow that he decided to shortcut the journey, falsifying his location through radio messages from his supposed course. Everyone following the race thought that he was winning, and a hero's welcome awaited him at home in Britain.

The narrator is what really makes this book shine
Revisado: 11-28-22
The story is definitely interesting but the narrator took this to another level and his ability to impersonate the different characters is bar none.

Historia
World War II began with a metallic roar as the German Blitzkrieg raced across Europe, spearheaded by the most dreaded weapon of the 20th century: the Panzer. No German tank better represents that thundering power than the infamous Tiger, and Otto Carius was one of the most successful commanders to ever take a Tiger into battle, destroying well over 150 enemy tanks during his incredible career.

Good book but the author makes me angry
Revisado: 10-08-22
While the book itself is a good recount of a Tiger tank commander’s experiences in World War 2, this particular author displays absolute fanaticism and lack of any regret about the atrocities committed by the Nazis. It appears that he completely dismisses the the fact that Germany was the aggressor and still blames the US for not going into war against the Soviets at the end of World War 2. In addition, he buys into the conspiracies about AIDS being man-made by Americans. He seems still bitter than Germany lost World War 2 and would have absolutely no qualms about doing it again.

Roger Reaves grew up a poor farm boy in Georgia and went from making 'moonshine' to becoming one of the most prolific smugglers of the 20th century. He covered six continents, transporting 20 ton ship loads of hash, tons of cocaine, and completed more than 100 sorties across the US border with plane loads of marijuana. His friends and associates spanned the globe - from Medellin Cartel kingpins Jorge Ochoa and Pablo Escobar, to "Mr. Nice" Howard Marks and the infamous Barry Seal who was Roger's close friend and employee.

Get on with it, grandpa!
Revisado: 10-03-22
Remember that Simpsons episode where grandpa Simpson tells a story that keeps rambling on forever? You know, the Shelbyville one? Well, this book is exactly like this! The fact that this is 27 hours long is absolutely insane and unnecessary and should be cut down to 1/3rd, at least. I hope you have the patience because I certainly don’t. I guess that’s what happens when time stops existing in prison. Also, I can’t stand the loud breaths and “mouth sounds”. It would be bearable if it was read by a professional, but now it’s a torture!

A snapshot of modern America
Revisado: 09-28-22
I am glad I got the audiobook after watching the movie. It’s much more in depth and really gives you a perspective on how a part of modern American underbelly lives. I’m amazed at how we can have people who are worth hundreds of billions and yet employ older people who should really be enjoying their retirements instead of walking 20 miles on concrete per day. This book is really a social commentary about one of the biggest issues plaguing modern America - wealth inequality and the failure of government to tax the rich.

Historia
Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy - it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he's assigned, he'll be in violation of Catch-22.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about
Revisado: 08-19-22
This is one of those highly rated books that I could barely get through. I have to give credit to the author for stretching this out out 20 hours about what essentially is a single topic - the military is dumb and bureaucratic. The narrator is pretty good, but has a tendency to emphasize his h’s so “white” becomes “hwite” and “where” becomes “hwere”. Halfway through the book I could swear the book started from the beginning. I guess that’s the style? Overall, a very “meh” book with a few laughs, but they’re rare and very repetitive.

Historia
This was no ordinary war. This was a war to make the world safe for democracy. And if democracy was made safe, then nothing else mattered - not the millions of dead bodies, nor the thousands of ruined lives. This is no ordinary novel. This is the story of a young American soldier terribly maimed in World War I - he "survives" armless, legless, and faceless, but with his mind intact.

Phenomenal anti-war book
Revisado: 08-11-22
There are books that inspire me to be an author as I sometimes go “I could write like that”, but then there are books and that leave you completely in awe of the raw talent the authors have. This is one of the latter ones. An absolutely must-read (or listen) for anyone who still glorifies war. I do have some philosophical debate whether all war is bad (such as defending your own nation against an aggressor), but this is still a very powerful book.
