Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Breathtaking writing
Revisado: 06-23-21
This brilliant book is one of the most impactful I've read. As a researcher, I admire the author's ability to connect real stories and research to show the historical context of this demographic migration. I truly felt that I was seeing the world from the perspectives of these three individuals. I was drawn in by the author's use of language and tone which brought me to tears, nevermind that the content that was sometimes difficult to hear. I highly recommend it. I have ordered the book in print for reference.

Historia
In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal. Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

Historia
Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf--ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f--king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

Intense
Revisado: 01-14-19
I have a feeling that Gary John Bishop could get me to do just about anything. He has powerful persuasion in his voice and choice of words. I love his attitude. He has introduced some pretty mind-blowing concepts about the mind that I'm still trying to wrap my head around. But never-the-less I'm going to make some changes because Gary John Bishop told me to.

Historia
We all need to think more like entrepreneurs. Seeking and seizing opportunities, boldly taking risks, quickly changing course - achieving success today requires the kind of action-first, fake-it-'til-you-make-it ethos celebrated in the tech industry. This formula is not typically a female one. Women tend to be cautious. We overthink our next moves, become paralyzed by fear, and simply don't act. We might be safer...but we're also stuck.

Some good points here
Revisado: 12-28-18
The author uses some of her own experience but mostly stories from other people. There's nothing wrong with that but I would have preferred a more objective perspective of these as research more than how they were presented. Wendy Sachs obviously has wonderful insight and I'm glad she shared it. Many points from her and her friends' anecdotes are helpful to me.
The narration was somewhat off-putting. The narrator's voice was too deep and commanding for this read. It was far too dramatic as this was light and exciting content.

So much more than a how-to book
Revisado: 12-28-18
This was a great book! At first listen, I was a little disappointed that it would be focused on the science of our brains. But then once he moved on from that part, I realized that the science was a necessary foundation to understanding how habits work. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories and research he used to describe the power of habits. I was especially intrigued by the habit of societies. It has inspired me to read further on that subject.

Interesting and inspiring
Revisado: 12-28-18
I loved this book. Michelle Obama tells the story of her childhood with relevant and thought-provoking context. I enjoyed relating to stories of being a working mom and trying to make sense of her chosen career. It was also interesting to hear what accomplishments she was most proud of since being First Lady. Her heart and genuine love for the people of this country is evident.
I'm so happy that she took the opportunity to tell us about her story. She did it very well and I will always think of her fondly because of it. She has inspired me to keep pursuing progress in my own journey.
