I should have returned this book.
Revisado: 01-05-22
I kept listening hoping it would eventually click and start making sense. All the time line jumping around and the kooky Nazi / Alien story lines never really made sense. The characters were single dimension and you never really get invested in any of them.
I’d suggest skipping this book.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I can't wait for the movie
Revisado: 05-17-21
TLDR; I liked this better than the Martian story line.
These person alone and lost in wherever are always full of one disaster after another. One of the things that was irritating is The Martian had so many disasters some were unexpected but most you could see coming a mile away and were somewhat repetitive. Hail Mary had it's string of disasters but they were novel and to me unexpected which kept the story engaging. I liked the memory loss plot device - it allowed the story to unfold in a direction I did not see coming and it allowed you to see both how he came to be alone in space as well as how he was coping with his situation at the same time.

Historia
The alliance between the Great Powers is starting to fall apart, the human economy cannot keep up with the urgent need for newer and better starships, and politicians are demanding an end to military spending. When a generation starship is detected approaching a British colony world, HMS Invincible is dispatched to intercept the aliens before they can make landfall. But the newcomers bring with them tidings of a new and deadly threat, an expansionist alien race far too close to the Human Sphere for comfort...and a sinister horror beyond human understanding.

Slow start, usual Ark Royal ish ending. Good book overall.
Revisado: 08-08-18
The book starts rehashing the past books in the series a bit excessively in my opinion. There was some tie in with the main character so it was kinda necessary. After you get thru that crap it gets good.

I have no idea what I just read.
Revisado: 09-11-16
The author creates an elaborate story that doesn't really go anywhere. None of the characters are really engaging or draw you into their world. The first time I've considered returning a book and I've been a member for years.
The Narrator is the only bright spot to this book.

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Almost every proper noun is mispronounced
Revisado: 07-02-14
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator mispronounces almost every proper noun, or maybe I should say his pronunciation differs on most of the proper nouns from the previous 5 books. Would it have killed him to listen to a few minutes of a prior book before reading this one to keep things consistent. We all correct people when we hear them mispronounce words and I am constantly correcting the narrator in my head while listening to this book.
