Historia
The volcanic eruption that created the island of Surtsey in 1967 also revealed a long-hidden cache of documents that told the fantastic history of Theem'hdra as written by the sorcerer Teh Atht. Building on translations begun by the scholar Thelred Gustau—who vanished under mysterious, some say magical, circumstances—Brian Lumley brings the saga of the Primal Land to audiences of today. Here, the wizard Mylarkhrion—most powerful of the terrible magicians who walked the earth in those long-ago days—battles sorcerers jealous of his knowledge, power, and wealth.

Really love Joshua Saxon as a narrator but I know he’s not for everyone. If you are looking for Lovecraft horror this isn’t it. This more on the Conan side of the mythos woth barbarians, action and evil wizards. Some elder horror stuff show up but it’s only a few times I enjoyed it.

Historia
In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story.

I only finished this because I paid for it and I don’t think I can return it but if I can I absolutely am asking for a refund.
An absolute waste of time. Boring boring boring. It’s an entire metaphor for death and acceptance that’s cut up into an 11hr audiobook that could have been a short story. Amateurish with its writing.
An old fisherman’s wife died of cancer, insert grief and death metaphor in the form of an undying wizard named The Fisherman, typical Lovecraftian basics because it’s an awful book, accept death, end. Skip it. Don’t read this. Don’t waste your time.

B Movie Hitman
Revisado: 10-04-24
Firstly, the narrator Rob Shapiro is great. He has a voice as smooth as velvet and he read well. His voices for characters are almost non existent here and there so it can all blend in together but it doesnt detract that much from the story.
The rest of the book is alright. I was recommended this on the Hitman game series Reddit so i decided to check it out. If you play those games are in the mood for something similar these are just fine.
The story itself is very B movie action thriller. Every Cliche in the world is here but because the overall plot also has that B movie feel its fine. It does drag on a bit in the middle and there are some chapters that you dont really need here.
overall not a bad listen and it kept me entertained.

Another Classic
Revisado: 01-30-24
Michael moorcock is probably one of the greatest authors ever. He weaves in and out of action, drama, romance and philosophy seamlessly.
Samuel Roukin does a fine job but he does good and say ERIC sometimes instead of ELric. A small nitpick given, I’m assuming, he recorded this in his own home studio instead of a sound booth. Bump the speed up to 1.2 or so for a more natural sounding read. Love the narrator but he is a tad slow.
This Volume concludes the main Elric Saga before getting into weird multiverse stuff with Volume 3. We also have a new 4th book that Moorcock released in 2023 I think :)
great stuff. I wish his other series like Hawkmoon were on audible. Maybe one day.

Historia
Powers of Darkness is an incredible literary discovery. In 1900, Icelandic publisher and writer Valdimar Asmundsson set out to translate Bram Stoker's world-famous 1897 novel Dracula. Called Makt Myrkranna (literally, 'Powers of Darkness'), this Icelandic edition included an original preface written by Stoker himself. Makt Myrkranna was published in Iceland in 1901 but remained undiscovered outside of the country until 1986, when Dracula scholarship was astonished by the discovery of Stoker's preface to the book.

The best Dracula fan fiction
Revisado: 12-19-23
Started 11-7-23
Finished 12-19-23
This is a - I kid you not- fan fiction version of Dracula.
I try and read or something else with Dracula every year or so and this time I figure I might as well check out this lost version.
Characters names are changed, it’s VERY abridged, it’s more action oriented, totally insane. I Really want this version adapted to screen because it would be WILD. It’s the same Dracula everyone knows but the differences here are so strange and different it feels fresh. The history is more interesting than the book itself as it is just regular fan fiction Dracula but it’s still great.
Once Dracula released it was never really translated very much so some dude in Iceland decided to do it himself and basically cut out the fat of Dracula and shorten it immensely. it’s so crazy you can’t make this up.
It was finally discovered in 2013 or something and released to the public for everyone years later.

Typical Sapkowski. Not The Witcher.
Revisado: 01-27-23
ive seen a lot of polarizing reviews for this one. Lots of Witcher fans from the games or books going into this expecting more Witcher.
The Witcher this is NOT but it is still written like typical Sapkowski. It is VERY dialogue heavy and slow. Sapkowksi often uses the dialogue his characters speak to tell the story rather than the usual descriptive heavy Curtains Are Blue style like other authors. its not a bad thing but i can see how it turns people off of his work.
This is SLOW as well. i find it funny people try this book then find it slow, meandering, boring when The Witcher series is also this. Boring, slow, tiresome BUT its still good. Nothing happens in the first Witcher book Blood of Elves and the same goes for here.
Tower of Fools feels Episodic so i suggest a chapter a day instead of binge listening to avoid burn out. It has the main character and crew going somehwere, talking and then repeating while hijinx ensue or nothing at all happens.
its a historical fiction so bring your wikipedia and youtube video essays along as well as maybe the PDF to translate the loads of latin in here.
as always Peter Kenny does a great job and what makes an OK book into something Alright if that makes sense.
I enjoyed it but you cant go into this expecting The Witcher . It is not.

Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

The ORIGINAL Witcher
Revisado: 02-21-22
1. The narration is fine. Samuel Roukin does a good job overall. Only issue is that some of his voices for characters are a bit indistinct and his flow into the parts of poetry here and there are super smooth and a bit confusing. But the guy has a voice like butter so these little nitpicks are easily forgiven.
2 WTF AUDIBLE?! NONE OF CHAPTERS ARE PROPERLY LABELED! Jumping from this story to that story is nearly impossible to do easily. Hopefully they update and correct the chapter listings to ACTUAL NAMES!
3. This is what the Witcher books stole from so if you liked those, you’ll love these. Better writing here that’s fast and better paced and no drawn out.
Hoping they keep Roukin and do the entire saga not just the core books.

Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

Of the time.
Revisado: 04-08-21
Lovecraft is definitely a timecapsule of thought. From the subtle to overt racism of the era and the thinking of the man, to the fears he dreamed of put to paper or to the grandiloquent language used throughout he can be a polarizing read/listen. Every fantastic story if met with something to date it be it the technology or racism but throw some grains of salt and you’ll love it.
The narrators are varied in that some are good and some are boring. The reader for Call of Cthulhu and Thing on the Doorstep puts me to sleep. He sounds bored.
The narrator for under the pyramids, color out of space and a few others I can’t stand. He’s so monotone. I forgot his name.
A good version but I suggest the complete fiction of Lovecraft by the Lovecraft historical society. Only two narrators but it has all of his stories and not just a handful.

Terrible narrator, great story.
Revisado: 11-19-20
Rob Inglis has a nice voice but Geezus is he a boring and slow narrator. My god. Super disappointed this was the only version of the hobbit they had when I got it. Get the one with Andy Serkis instead your ears will thank you. I love this story so much that I had to push through the awful narration.
The Hobbit is a great book. Fun and quick. Too bad it’s brought down by such a boring reader.

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Revisado: 08-21-20
Ending felt super abrupt.
There’s a sex scene with a 15 year old girl that’s unsettling.
The story starts off fine and the world is interesting then it just gets ridiculous and takes whatever realism it was trying to have and throw it out the window.
Worth a credit and return I’d say.
