Historia
A young woman is in love with a successful surgeon, a man torn between his love for her and his incorrigible womanizing. His mistress, a free-spirited artist, lives her life as a series of betrayals—while her other lover, earnest, faithful, and good, stands to lose everything because of his noble qualities. In a world where lives are shaped by irrevocable choices and fortuitous events, and everything occurs but once, existence seems to lose its substance, its weight. Hence we feel “the unbearable lightness of being."

Introspective and Entertaining
Revisado: 05-10-18
Kundera blends thoughtful musings on life, art, love, happiness, destiny etc. with great character development and storytelling. The narrative follows the lives, decisions, and inner monologues of several main characters. It is well-written and entertaining. I enjoyed the narration by Richmond Hoxie as well.

Historia
Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years - a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung and the unchallenged rise to power of his son, Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape never before seen, Demick brings to life what it means to be an average Korean citizen, living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today.

Revisado: 05-10-18
Wow! This book is so beautiful and haunting. It will stay with you long after you finish listening to it. It is both poetic and highly informative. I learned so much about North Korea and the lives of defectors. This is an extremely important book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it. Also, Karen White does a fantastic job narrating!

Sissy Hankshaw, an almost flawlessly beautiful small-town girl with big-time dreams, hitchhikes her way into your heart, your hopes, and your sleeping bag in Tom Robbins's magical, funny, and most famous novel. Follow Sissy's amazing odyssey from Virginia to chic Manhattan to the Dakota Badlands, where FBI agents, cowgirls, and ecstatic whooping cranes explode in a deliciously drawn-out climax.

Fantastically Unusual
Revisado: 05-10-18
I listened to this entire book on a road trip across the country and it was the perfect fit for my trip. Thoughtful, humorous, weird, and sexy, this book will keep you entertained for hours. Robbins has a unique style of writing and tells a coming-of-age tale with quite a bit of charm. The writing begs to be listened to and Tom Robbins does a superb job narrating.

Born in 1951 in an affluent Tokyo suburb, Hajime - beginning in Japanese - has arrived at middle age wanting for almost nothing. The postwar years have brought him a fine marriage, two daughters, and an enviable career as the proprietor of two jazz clubs. Yet a nagging sense of inauthenticity about his success threatens Hajime's happiness. And a boyhood memory of a wise, lonely girl named Shimamoto clouds his heart.

Fans of Murakami Will Not Be Disappointed
Revisado: 05-10-18
I love Haruki Murakami and read everything he writes. I read some reviews saying that "South of the Border, West of the Sun" is not his best work and is therefore not worth reading, but I disagree. My favorite Murakami book is still "Kafka on the Shore," but I found this book to be complex, psychological, entertaining, and well worth my time. Eric Loren gave a brilliant performance as narrator. If you are a fan of Murakami's work, then I highly recommend this lovely little book.

I didn't finish it, but I still recommend it
Revisado: 10-21-17
The content of this book is invaluable to anyone interested in deepening friendships and making new friends faster and more effectively. I devoured the first 8 chapters of this book! I couldn't get enough! But after a while, I felt that the author began repeating her ideas over and over, just in different words. Perhaps I just for burned out on it, but I wasn't able to finish the book even though I tried multiple times. The narrator is hard to get used to. Her delivery feels dry and monotone at first, but after awhile it gets better. Even though I didn't finish the book, I have still shared it with two friends because the information I received even during the first few chapters was more than worth the price of the book.

Historia
In his newest collection of essays, David Sedaris lifts the corner of ordinary life, revealing the absurdity teeming below its surface. His world is alive with obscure desires and hidden motives, a world where forgiveness is automatic and an argument can be the highest form of love. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is another unforgettable collection from one of the wittiest and most original writers at work today.

Poetic, dry humor and outstanding delivery
Revisado: 10-21-17
I have read most of Sedaris' writing, and this book is my favorite so far. If you enjoy humorous and poetic stories about family, love, death, and adolescence, you will love this book. I listened to it for hours every day and even listened to a couple of chapters multiple times. Sedaris' narration is near perfection. His dry humor and timely delivery make for pure listening pleasure.

Audie Award, Narration by Author, 2016. Raised by unconventional Irish Catholics who knew "how to drink, how to dance, how to talk, and how to stir up the devil", Kate Mulgrew grew up with poetry and drama in her bones. But in her mother, a would-be artist burdened by the endless arrival of new babies, young Kate saw the consequences of a dream deferred.

Superb narration and good writing
Revisado: 10-21-17
I've been a fan of Kate Mulgrew's acting for years, and I love memoirs, so I was excited to begin "Born with Teeth." I was not disappointed. While the writing was better than I expected, and the story was very interesting, my favorite part of this book was Mulgrew's narration. Her voice is wonderful to listen to and her delivery was outstanding--highly engaging! I would recommend this book to any fellow memoir enthusiast and/or fan of her work!
