Historia
How did a bar like P. J. Clarke’s saloon become the beloved watering hole for Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy, Rocky Marciano, and Buddy Holly (not to mention the fictional Don Draper)? And what was it about their bacon cheeseburger that caused Nat King Cole to pronounce it "the Cadillac of burgers"? Established in 1884 and bought in l904 by Patrick "Paddy" Joseph Clarke, this Irish saloon in a beautiful Victorian building on the corner of Third Avenue and 55th Street has captivated generations of New Yorkers.

Biography of the Clarke Family
Revisado: 02-05-23
This is not really a story of P.J.Clarke’s and any fun stories of the bar but instead, a story of the Clarke family and the history of what was happening in America at the time they owned the bar. I was expecting more about the interesting people who frequented the bar, etc. The title should be more clear about that.

Not a Story for Strong Women
Revisado: 12-09-22
I wanted to love this book. However, inasmuch as I enjoy authors reading their books, in this case, she should have used a professional narrator. He constant chuckling is very distracting. I was also concerned at how Priscilla chuckles through stories of abuse. I understand she was a young child when she met and married Elvis, however, she does not seem to realize boundaries were crossed. This is not a story about a strong, self-realized woman. This is a story about a woman who dedicated her entire life to molding herself into the perfect wife… at any cost. She explains away stories of abuse, even giggling when telling a story where she ended up with a black eye. She is also constantly preoccupied with looking perfect, even proudly describing how she only gained a few pounds during pregnancy to look more attractive and not get stretch marks.
Interesting story, but flawed and difficult to understand.

Our lives can be crazy, but you can take a break from it all with Wondery’s new series, Even the Rich, where co-hosts Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams pull back the curtain and chat about someone else’s craziness for a change. They tell stories about some of the greatest family dynasties in history, from the Murdochs to the Royals to the Carters (Jay-Z and Beyoncé, that is). Because as Queen Elizabeth once said, “A good gossip is a wonderful tonic.”

Great information. Annoying hostesses.
Revisado: 03-16-22
The topics on this podcast are great. However, it’s like listening to two 15 year-olds gossiping. Terrible performance. I wish it had different narrators since the information is good. But I can’t.

Not as Expected
Revisado: 10-31-21
I was expecting a travel book with tips on places to see, restaurants to enjoy, and insider information. Instead, this is an odd book about Rick Steves’ travels. Being that he is Rick Steves, he gets invited to visit places not open to the public- not helpful since I will not get those opportunities. In addition, although his tours are not inexpensive, he seems to be obsessed with anything free. I am ok paying to get great experiences, but missed out on those, learning instead about practicing chorus, and the like. If you want to hear about how Rick spends time on his vacations, you may like the book. If you are looking for tips on traveling, you may be better off choosing a different book.

I loved it!
Revisado: 10-17-21
I have taken courses in person for French, watched movies, etc. Nothing made me learn French so fast. Now at least I understand it. The one tiny thing I would say is they say listen and repeat a lot. Don’t get frustrated. Go with it and it will be worth it. In fact, I just purchased the 2nd edition. Merci!

The topic is intriguing, but the interviewer is hard to listen to. She spends the entire interview insulting the author, and the author does not walk away. Will not listen to another interview by Susie Bright.

Hard to Read
Revisado: 11-26-20
This story reads like Wikipedia information turned into a book. The author tells us over and over how smart she is yet, the most basic clues are hard for her to get. She is clearly in love with this psychopath and wants us to believe he was a smart, dashing, well-behaved young man who truly esteemed her as a friend. Spoiler alert- he did not; he was just using her for $, attention and to get her to co-write a book with him. If you know nothing about Ted Bundy, you may find parts interesting but, anyone who’s ever heard about him will find the story basic and the author a bit pathetic.

A Treat
Revisado: 09-14-20
Reading this book was a treat. It describes a life most of us won’t ever know. It is raw and candid. The author surprises at every turn with experiences both biting and thrilling. I felt like I was in the room with her every step of the way.

Historia
In our increasingly frantic daily lives, many people are genuinely fearful of the prospect of solitude, but time alone can be both rich and restorative, especially when travelling. Through on-the-ground reporting and recounting the experiences of artists, writers, and innovators who cherished solitude, Stephanie Rosenbloom considers how being alone as a traveler - and even in one's own city - is conducive to becoming acutely aware of the sensual details of the world - patterns, textures, colors, tastes, sounds - in ways that are difficult to do in the company of others.

Wanted to Love
Revisado: 09-12-20
I wanted to love this book. As someone who loves to travel, this book seemed to be perfect. However, it is more like looking at a friend’s picture ps from a place you have visited many times. It may be the narrator’s overly dramatic tone, but it was difficult for me to finish it. If you want to take a virtual tour, this is the book for you.

Stop the Screaming
Revisado: 09-06-20
I wanted ro love this book; I did. She is charming and he life is interesting. However, I am half way through the book and I don’t think I can finish it. I find myself trying to learn more about her, but the screaming is too much; it is unexpected and it takes away from the story. Sad but, I don’t know that I can finish this book.
