Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Colorfully intriguing
Revisado: 06-29-22
Dalia Owens skillfully introduces each character in such detail that you're drawn into their lives. Her descriptions of the settings and events actively engage the imagination to see, hear, touch, taste, and even smell the marsh wilderness.
I especially connected with the main character, Kya - emotionally investing, turning page after page hoping for the " happily ever after".
I love a book that keeps you guessing and even rereading pages for clarification. Great book!

Survival celebration
Revisado: 04-23-22
Tarana Burke's story is emotionally difficult to process, yet very important to read. She exposes the quiet kept secrets that many females have been haunted by for generations. Praise God times are changing and this generation is confronting the taboos of the past. She shares how her early traumas and her struggle with low self-esteem and emotional wellness have brought her to a place of responsibility, rescue, and respect by bravely sharing her story of survival.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Revisado: 05-07-19
Education, integrity, and relationships are clearly important family values and central to Michelle Obama's upbringing. I admire her tenacity and determination to be true to herself and not lose her voice.
Her writing seems to reflect her approachable and humble spirit. Plus, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mrs. Obama as she read her book, even though I have a copy.

Historia
In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston went to Plateau, Alabama, just outside Mobile, to interview 86-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women, and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was then the only person alive to tell the story of this integral part of the nation's history. Hurston was there to record Cudjo's firsthand account of the raid that led to his capture and bondage 50 years after the Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in the United States. In 1931, Hurston returned to Plateau, the African-centric community three miles from Mobile.

This memoir is a priceless contribution to the disturbing and regrettable history of kidnapped Africans in the United States. Zora Neale Hurston gives a face to the experience of a real person, not a fictional character. Never romanticizing the life of this displaced African. Priceless!
