Historia
The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner. Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate.

Bodice ripper presented as a mystery
Revisado: 06-21-14
The story line is interrupted so that we can hear about the heroine try to cope with her ghosts from the past. It is so unrealistic that it was impossible not to fast forward past the "craving for the body of the big macho. The PhD heroine cannot bother to look at the information that is key to solving the mystery. The research labs are so poorly described that it made my teeth grind.
The reader stays true to the hero--very whiny.

Historia
Welcome to Kittur, India. Of its 193,432 residents, only 89 declare themselves to be without religion or caste. And if the characters in Between the Assassinations are any indication, Kittur is an extraordinary crossroads of the brightest minds and the poorest morals, the up-and-coming and the downtrodden, and of an India that modern literature has rarely addressed.

Compelling, but not pretty
Revisado: 03-22-14
I enjoyed the performance and the stories were compelling--AND they held together. However, the subject matter was hard to listen to. The poverty and the hatred--both toward self and others who are different was hard to hear.

Historia
Ocyrhoe, a young, cunning fugitive from Rome, safeguards a chalice of subtle but great power. Finding herself in France, she allies with the persecuted, pacifist Cathar sect in their legendary mountaintop stronghold, Montségur. There she resists agents of the Roman Church and its Inquisition, fights off escalating, bloody besiegement by troops of the King of France, and shields the mysterious cup from the designs of many. Percival, the heroic Shield-Brethren knight from The Mongoliad, consumed by his mystical visions of the Holy Grail, is also drawn to Montségur - where the chalice holds the key to his destiny.

Disappointed
Revisado: 03-17-14
The first 4 parts of the Mongolliad were very well written and had a good story line and the reader was very good. This last volume was poorly written and even more poorly performed. It was hard to tell which was more poorly done.
Anyway, I recommend stopping with the 4th volume.

Deborah Harkness’s sparkling debut, A Discovery of Witches, has brought her into the spotlight and galvanized fans around the world. In this tale of passion and obsession, Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford's Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.

Saccharine romance thinly disguised as Vampire
Revisado: 02-26-13
As a bodice ripper, this might be an okay book. As an interesting story line, it still might be just fine (witches and vampires do all sorts of interesting things). As a total story, it is horrible. The main characters are so inconsistent that they are unbelievable in terms of their actions. The main character (Dianna) is so dependent on her "man" that it is impossible to identify with her. Her man (the vampire) is so protective and controlling that even stereotyped hard core Republicans would be alarmed. The narrator is the only thing that saves this book. She is good, but she only had so much to work with.

Historia
Art critic Jeremy Grove is found dead, his face frozen in a mask of terror. His body temperature is grotesquely high; he is discovered in a room barricaded from the inside; the smell of brimstone is everywhere... and the unmistakable imprint of a claw is burned into the wall. As more bodies are discovered - their only connection the bizarre but identical manner of death - the world begins to wonder if the Devil has, in fact, come to collect his due.

Historia
For years Burke has harbored an outlaw's hard love for Wolfe, the beautiful, driven former sex-crimes prosecutor who was fired for refusing to "go along to get along." So when Wolfe is arrested for the attempted murder of John Anson Wychek, a vicious rapist she once prosecuted, Burke deals himself in. That means putting together a distrustful alliance between his underground "family of choice," Wolfe's private network, and a rogue NYPD detective who has his own stake in the outcome. Burke knows that Wolfe’s alleged "victim," although convicted only once, is actually a serial rapist.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Good Story--Bad Reader
Revisado: 07-19-09
I like the story. As a frequent listener to audio books I am generally accepting of different readers. However, in this instance I found the reader very tedious. He speaks in mostly a monotone and his accents are really very trite and unappealing.
I have the paperback and at about page 100, I switched to the book. The story is very good and I am enjoying it a lot.

Two brutal murders and millions of missing dollars in the growing UN/Iraq oil-for-food scandal have led Castillo and his team to an estancia in Uruguay, where the man they seek is murdered right before their eyes. Well read-poorly written
Revisado: 07-20-08
A poor plot and lousy character development mark this novel. Generally, I have liked the author, but admit this is the first time I have listened and it is the "president agent" novel I have read. The story was well read, but the reading could not save the story.

Read well-poor story line
Revisado: 01-10-06
The story maintains interest mostly because the reader is so good. The story line is mostly SciFi with some magical thinking.
I could not identify nor empathasize with any of the characters the story line was not suspenseful nor satisfyingly complex.
