Historia
Since Anabelle’s mother left for Earth to care for her own ailing mother, her days in New Galveston have been spent at school and her nights at her laconic father’s diner with Watson, the family Kitchen Engine and dishwasher, as her only companion. When the Silence came, and communication and shipments from Earth to its colonies on Mars stopped, life seemed stuck in foreboding stasis until the night Silas Mundt and his gang attacked.

Great science fiction adventure
Revisado: 04-04-25
I think this is definitely not a book for everybody, but I absolutely loved it. A combination of Martian Chronicles and true grit as everyone says, but I would throw in some lovecraft there for sure. Definitely one of my favorite recent science fictions reads.

Great story great ending
Revisado: 02-21-25
I love this story. With so many novels I get through to the end and then I’m just disappointed in the ending. This one was great all the way through. Recommend.

So disappointing
Revisado: 06-19-23
I was a huge fan of the Bobaverse series. I got this and was so excited to listen. I don’t know what happened here. But this book feels like it was written in a couple of weeks. The constant silly wisecracking throughout the book lacked any balance whatsoever. Even the AI is wisecracking. Just super disappointing from this author.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

This reads like a college assignment. It’s heavy-handed tedious in its desire to make an important point. Whatever it was.

Bengtsson's hero, Red Orm-canny - courageous and above all lucky - is only a boy when he is abducted from his Danish home by the Vikings and made to take his place at the oars of their dragon-prowed ships. Orm is then captured by the Moors in Spain, where he fights for the Caliph of Cordova. Escaping from captivity, Orm washes up in Ireland, where he marvels at those epicene creatures, the Christian monks, and from which he then moves on to play an ever more important part in the intrigues of the various Scandinavian kings and clans and dependencies.

I had never heard of this book till I found it here. I absolutely loved it. As a sixty year-old woman wasnt sure it will be my cup of tea but I loved it. Loved the story — loved the characters.

Not a bad book…
Revisado: 08-04-19
I rarely review books. But I feel compelled to review this one. When I started the book I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. I went back and read all the reviews and thought well I will stick with this because the reviews are good. So I did. Ultimately, I should’ve left after the second chapter. I did not warm up to the characters. The brother character, granted, was supposed to be unlikable, was such a turn off to me that I just couldn’t get past it. It wasn’t anything about his deformities, he was just a vile human being. And while I know that was his function in the book, it was just overwhelmingly depressing. The main character did grow me a bit until the awful ending which took any likability away from her. The ending didn’t make sense on any level. It’s like watching a movie where all the characters he had to do was say one little thing to avoid a situation.. But nobody ever said that thing. I felt the author just needed to end the book. It’s not a bad book. I did keep reading it. And I wanted to know how it ended. But the ending was very disappointing. My advice, if you get this book and you’re in a couple chapters deep and it’s not doing it for you, you should go ahead and bail on it.

According to Gage, they actually put those teeth to good use. And he, Gage, has met them. Dinah is skeptical, but as the story unfolds and the storm rages on, she begins to believe.

Boring and forced. I read several of his other books, but this felt like he was under contract and out of ideas.
