Cunning and bravery. Baden-Powell was known as the “Hero of Mafeking” for his leadership during the Boer War when the town was under siege for months. To most people, he is known as the father of the scouting movement. But this account of his experiences in spying is amazing. The quick thinking and cleverness is only matched by his confidence and self awareness. I truly enjoyed this “game” as his called his approach to spying. In fact, that is also his approach to his training young people who are scouts. I believe that is why scouting became such a huge success. Be prepared!

Outstanding performance of a true classic. I can’t wait to listen to the next in the series.

Louis L’Amour is a great story teller and Willie Nelson as narrator gives the adaptations a sense of authenticity like no other. I thoroughly enjoyed this as if I was sitting around a campfire hearing these stories for the first time.

I found nothing redeeming in this book. Admittedly, after the first part of the book, I realized that I don’t need this kind of negativity and hopelessness feeding my mind. Some train wrecks are hard to pull yourself apart from, so maybe the end is better than the beginning, but I chose not to wallow through the mess. I stopped listening. The idea of a modern day Captain Hook is intriguing, but real pirates involved in human trafficking, torture, and the absence of any goodness smothered what might have kept me listening. This just made me sad, so I turned it off.
