Historia
When he set out to play each of Golf Digest’s 100 greatest American golf courses in one year, Jimmie James knew he was attempting the impossible. But then again, he’d spent his entire life defying the odds. Playing from the Rough is a remarkable memoir of race, class, family, and the power of perseverance, as James braids his love of golf with reflections on the path that took him from childhood poverty to the most exclusive and opulent golf courses in America.

One of the very best golf books
Revisado: 08-19-24
So glad I picked up this audiobook. Well written and narrated. Yes, it’s about golf, but it’s about so much more. Race, perseverance, poverty, success, domestic abuse, dogged determination, and humanity. Relisten-worthy.

The first quarter of the book was fine. Then the somewhat inane plot twists. Pretty bad story overall.

Coyne is the G.O.A.T.
Revisado: 06-07-21
I first got hooked by Tom Coyne with A Course Called Scotland. Within a few pages, I felt like an addict, barely able to stop listening. Since then, I’ve listened to his first two non-fiction tomes and just finished A Course Called America.
All I can say is it was amazing. Coyne’s writing captures so much more than golf with life lessons abundant. He is truly the G.O.A.T. (in my opinion) when it comes to golf writing.
Jacques Roy’s performance is impeccable. I’m already looking forward to his next, whenever it may be.

Reliving a classic
Revisado: 10-26-20
I originally read Swan Song back in probably 1988 (original paperback release), not long after first reading The Stand. While I loved both, McCammon’s book really spoke to me more than King’s. Decided to get the Audiobook and not disappointed. Stechschulte handles the narration admirably. Glad I used a credit that allowed me to relive this classic.

Historia
Rock god. Justice fighter. Rabble-rouser. Ivy Leaguer. An American renegade and fearless truth teller. Rage Against the Machine’s guitar virtuoso, Tom Morello, is many things; but perhaps, he himself, sums it up best: a one-man revolution. For the first time ever, hear Morello fuse the deeply personal with the political in a rapturous, badass, one-man show that skillfully balances soul-bearing stories with spellbinding guitar fury: Speaking Truth to Power Through Stories and Song by Tom Morello.

Historia
Like most amateur golfers, Tom Coyne had often wondered whether the pros won because they were more talented or because they were more obsessed. Overweight and burdened by a 14 handicap, he decided to find out for himself what it takes to play like a pro. Charting his journey - which included hiring top golf gurus such as Dr. Jim Suttie - Paper Tiger takes listeners from the Michelob tournament (a win for Tom) to the Australian Tour, where 40-mile-per-hour winds and a driving rain scare off his Japanese partners.

Best golf book ever?
Revisado: 08-24-20
While I thoroughly enjoyed both A Course Called Ireland and A Course Called Scotland, I absolutely fell in love with Paper Tiger. Best golf book ever? Maybe not to some, but it sure is for me.

Along the way, he searches out his family's roots, discovers that a once-poor country has been transformed by an economic boom, and finds that the only thing tougher to escape than Irish sand traps are Irish pubs.
