In typical Winchester style, this book covers the topic with throrough details, including the history of the Dutch colony, the geology, the history of theory of plate tectonics, the event itself and it's ramifications.
It probably helps to be a bit of a geology buff due to the details and some of the terminology, but even without any geologic knowledge, this book is certain to make fascinating reading.

I've never read anything like this before -- A hard-boiled detective novel wrapped up in a fantastial, weird, off-kilter world. What a story and what a ride.

Interesting book with a troubling ending

I very much enjoyed this book, and I thought that the narration was fantastic. It was very philosphical and - to me - had meaning beyond the language on the pages. However, the ending caught me by surprise. Was the author's intent to show that someone like Mme. Michel really could not break out of her class, or ??? It keeps me thinking. How very French.

I'm not even sure why I downloaded this audio book. I had read 'Heart of Darkness' in high school, but was unfamiliar with anything else by Conrad. This is one of the best books I have ever read/heard. The story is incredible. Everyone should read this book. After reading it, I rented the BBC mini series on sideo tape for another interpretation. It didn't hold a candle to the book, but it's still compelling.

OK - but not very informative

I didn't really care for this book. I felt that it was basically an advertisement for the author's seminars and "how to become rich" ideas. I had hoped that there would be solid information on how to educate people about finance and money management.
