Fun Story
Revisado: 04-05-17
This book is a delightful read. If you can begin to imagine what a lady Pinkerton Detective, a Texas Ranger, a bordello, the women who work there and there "guests" have to do with a bank robber, and a murder or two you have the makings of a great book. At times you can't help but laugh out loud as the story is so funny and totally fun to read. I both listened to it on audible and read it. The narrator was pretty good except when it came to the British accent. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the British detective & the town's lady revivalists. "Repent!" 😂

Brilliant Narrator!

This review is from: The Walnut Tree: A Holiday Tale (Bess Crawford Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
I don't give out a lot of five star reviews but this book deserves everyone of those five stars. I'm not overly sure why it's called "A Holiday Tale" because it is NOT a Christmas book or any other holiday you can think of story. I can in a way understand being called that, but it is far to complicated to go into here.
This is the story of a young titled English woman living in France when WWI breaks out. She sees the need of nurses and travels back to London to train to become a nursing sister and returns to France to nurse the wounded and dying. She hides the fact that she is Lady Elspeth, from the doctors and other nurses. I'll leave it there but what a wonderful historical novel. I both read and listened to the audible version. The Audible narrator was the best I have ever heard. English, French and Scottish accents were impeccable! I finally gave up reading and listened only. First rate everything. Clean book. No swearing, no violence, no immorality issues. Don't miss out on this book.

Historia
Two women, the ailing Abigail Boyles and exuberant, wealthy Lauren Durough, are brought together by their love of books and the discovery of a diary written by a young woman, Mercy Hayworth, who was burned at the stake during the Salem witch trials. Her inspiring, yearning, romantic diary proves to be an inspiration to both Abigail and Lauren, teaching them to cherish friendships, love, and life. Readers will be similarly uplifted by Susan Messner's finely wrought tale.

Great Story
Revisado: 05-13-16
This book is about the Salem witch trials but has a second story set in modern day. I don't know if it is about a real historical person but I imagine it is historically accurate. At times I found myself with tears in my eyes for the Salem characters as well as the modern day characters. I would recommend this book to a friend. That's got to mean something. ;)

Good Story
Revisado: 04-04-16
While this was a good story and you didn't want to stop I kept getting distracted by Mack's voice. It just wasn't my favorite. I felt like the narrator struggled with his voice at times when starting his parts and for me personally that became a distraction. That doesn't mean it would be for others nor does it take away from the gripping storyline of the book. Hence the four stars. I would recommend it to a friend so that has to mean something. Enjoy!

Historia
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they’ve failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore. But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up.

Story Good but...
Revisado: 03-25-16
The book is good. I love Terri Blackstock. I know her writing style. I guess I have never read any of her books that are new releases. I've always read the series when it has been completed. (Or in this case listened to it). Needless to say although it's kind of resolved it's not and you are left with wanting to shout "Noooooo!!!!"
