In the summer of 1961, a wall of barbed wire goes up quickly in the dead of night, officially dividing Berlin. Luisa Voigt lives in West Berlin, but her grandmother lives across the border and is now trapped inside the newly isolated communist country of East Germany. Desperate to rescue her grandmother and aware of the many others whose families have been divided, Luisa joins a secret spy network, risking her life to help bring others through a makeshift underground tunnel to West Germany. So worth the read
Revisado: 11-04-22
This is an incredible story about an extraordinary man who lived through circumstances very few can even imagine. I don’t think the narrator’s did it justice though, thus my 3 star rating for performance. Nevertheless, the story itself is worth 5 stars. I was humbled by this amazing man’s courage, perseverance and faith. Thank you, Bob, You are among the few that can truly make our world a better place

A fun romance
Revisado: 08-26-22
If you hate romantic novels and happy endings don’t read! Kate Quinn dipped heavily into the romance genre while leaning on historical facts, myths and rumors to pull off these books. I’m giving it 4 stars all the way around because I enjoyed it and didn’t feel it was a waste of time. I agree with many other readers that Giulia’s narration was odd. I thought it was better than the first book but still off in strange places. It’s also not up to the standards of Quinn’s earlier historical novels. It IS filled with strong women living in the confines of their times which is a hallmark of Quinn’s work. Really good story telling a great character development! So if you’re not afraid to stick your nose into a fun romance novel with a generous sprinkling of history, read it!

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Just sayin
Revisado: 05-17-21
I spent a lot of hours listening to this book and it felt just as incomplete in the end as half way through. Without giving away the ending, I felt like the author got tired of the story (me too!) and gave up totally. What a disappointment!

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Haunting Story
Revisado: 04-10-20
I had never heard of this book and now it is one of those I will buy for my own library. It is beautifully written, the characters are so real and well revealed, and the story itself vibrates with life as the characters move relentlessly towards their separate yet intertwined destinys. This book is more than worth the read. It is one of those books I will read again, and I rarely read any book twice.
