Historia
In the popular imagination, superhuman artificial intelligence is an approaching tidal wave that threatens not just jobs and human relationships, but civilization itself. Conflict between humans and machines is seen as inevitable and its outcome all too predictable. In this groundbreaking audiobook, distinguished AI researcher Stuart Russell argues that this scenario can be avoided, but only if we rethink AI from the ground up. Russell begins by exploring the idea of intelligence in humans and in machines.

The rise of AI has the potential to transform our future more than any other technology - and there's nobody better qualified or situated to explore that future than Max Tegmark, an MIT professor who's helped mainstream research on how to keep AI beneficial.

Historia
Exercise is health-enhancing and life-extending, yet many of us feel it's a chore. But as Kelly McGonigal reveals, it doesn't have to be. Movement can and should be a source of joy. Through her trademark blend of science and storytelling, McGonigal draws on insights from neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, and evolutionary biology, as well as memoirs, ethnographies, and philosophers. She shows how movement is intertwined with some of the most basic human joys, including self-expression, social connection, and mastery.

Lots of Filler, a Fast Cash Grab
Revisado: 03-02-23
This book has lots of filler, and not much substance. Still, I hung on until I was 5 hours in! I just can't take anymore. I'm returning the audio book. The author uses gobs of clechés for example, "I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it," and the like. There's quite a bit of self-aggrandizement, and fanatical thoughts about fitness. Some of the exercises described seem downright dangerous. The anecdotes (which comprise most of the book) are obviously meant to be inspiring but come off as a huge downer, like the one about the suicidal woman who wanted to get a workout in before she killed herself.
I saw a post about this book on Instagram, and the author mentioned "happiness molecules." That's why I decided to give the book a listen. There's actually not much about happiness molecules in the book. Did I get something out of this book? Maybe one or two little takeaways. Did it inspire me or take my breath away? Absolutely not. The syrupy way it was narrated was the last straw for me. Not putting myself through any more of this. Life is too short and too precious.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Loved It
Revisado: 01-15-23
Such an excellent book. This book inspired to go to graduate school. Upon reading this book I realized that many of the women I know who are my mother's age didn't get to go further in their educations simply because of sexiest men in power who wanted to take advantage of them in awful ways. This book reminded the stories my mother, my teachers and older friends have told me over the years.

Historia
Epigenetics can potentially revolutionize our understanding of the structure and behavior of biological life on Earth. It explains why mapping an organism's genetic code is not enough to determine how it develops or acts and shows how nurture combines with nature to engineer biological diversity. Surveying the 20-year history of the field while also highlighting its latest findings and innovations, this volume provides a readily understandable introduction to the foundations of epigenetics.

I wish I could have the 3.5 hours I listened to this book back. I learned nothing in that span of time. This book is so empty and overly cautious, that it fails to make a single point.

Historia
The rose is the Queen of Flowers. Roses are beautiful, fragrant, and elegant - and they require all the pampering of a real queen, don't they? Actually, they don't! Rose gardening can be easy and pleasant. I've worked 25 years in horticulture and cared for over 300 roses in a public rose garden when I was municipal horticulturist. I found ways to keep rose gardening fuss-budgetry to a minimum while growing vigorous roses that bloomed their heads off. Rose to the Occasion shares tricks and shortcuts that rosarians use.

Historia
Imagine, if you will, a disease - one that has only subtle outward symptoms but can hijack your entire body without notice; one that transfers easily between parent and child; one that can last a lifetime if untreated. According to Dr. Paul Conti, this is exactly how society should conceptualize trauma: as an out-of-control epidemic with a potentially fatal prognosis. In Trauma: The Invisible Epidemic, Dr. Conti examines the most recent research, clinical best practices, and dozens of real-life stories to present a deeper, richer, and more urgent view of trauma.

Completly Useless Cash Grab
Revisado: 11-27-22
This book is NOT for anyone who is actually dealing with trauma. If you are looking for actual good advice and healing, you will be bitterly disappointed. This book can be described as one long complaint about how neglectful the medical system is in America. Eye roll. There is a ton of filler in this book. It's super political. No meaningful points are made. I could sum up this entire book in the words: Trauma is traumatic. If you already know this, there is no need for you to read this book whatsoever. Skip it.
