Excellent as always
Revisado: 02-26-25
Another well-crafted murder mystery. Complicated enough to keep you from guessing who the culprit was but at the same time also entertaining.

So short it was a mistake to buy
Revisado: 02-16-25
I spent one of audible’s credits on this extremely brief short story. It’s only a love story. There is very little about his experiences in World War I, which is a disappointment. I have been to England and I have seen how much that war affected the English population at all levels. The short story seems to minimize the effects of the war..

Historia
The “Prey” novels by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist John Sandford consistently make the best-seller lists, but they are not for the faint of heart. Featuring Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, these thrillers are raw, graphic, and impossible to put down. In Eyes of Prey, a depressed and unfocused Davenport takes on a macabre case, tracking down a serial killer who maims the eyes of his victims after he has murdered them.

Not for me.
Revisado: 02-15-25
A main character who jumps into bed with women after woman actually slows the story down and makes it somewhat boring. Also, the story itself is difficult to accept as a genuine situation.

England, 1927. When Lord Edgington hears of a failed attack on an eccentric viscount, it’s the perfect excuse to get out of seeing horrible relatives over Christmas. With his loyal grandson and their golden retriever along for the ride, he sets off to investigate, but on arriving at the snowbound manor house on the English coast, they find that the wrong man has been killed. It is not the rich tyrant who lies dead on the floor of the grand salon, but one of his many bickering heirs.

If I tell you what I like about the story, that will spoil it for other readers! I enjoy listening to Mr. Brown’s piece at the end. His research adds authenticity to the stories he writes. That enhances their value as stories!

Growth and development of the characters stood out the most.
Revisado: 10-27-24
I particularly like how the author is allowing the young men to grow and develop instead of remaining stuck in their abilities and attitudes. The ending was not so much a surprise as it was gratifying. I also like the variety of the personalities in the newer characters in this book.

Humor along with the classic American heirs to a noble title storyline.
Revisado: 08-12-24
I rate this as the author’s best thus far. There is more humor sprinkled into the story which relieves the potential for it to become tedious. The conflict with the always angry antagonist character adds some spice to the tale. And who doesn’t like a story about Americans, possibly inheriting an English title? Add to that the potential for a treasure hunt and it’s a good combination.

Historia
Ferrying tourists around Dublin for the Leprechaun Limo Service makes quite a change after years in the military. Still, Megan Malone is enjoying her life in Ireland. She likes the scenery, the easy pace, the quirky, quick-witted locals. Everything - except having one of her clients drop dead at the statue of fabled fishmonger, Molly Malone. Most restaurant critics notch up their share of enemies. Elizabeth Darr, however, was a well-loved international star. She and her husband, Simon, had just had dinner when Elizabeth collapsed, and spoiled seafood is the first suspect.

Narration which dies the story
Revisado: 06-22-24
I am glad to see the narrator was changed after this book. She spoke too slowly and had too little inflection that matched what was happening in the story. It’s difficult to really judge the story itself because it was dulled by the narrator. I see subsequent books used different narrators.

Imaginative and contemporary story but with classic elements of an English mystery.
Revisado: 06-06-24
Refreshing to have a mystery only! No main character wasting time in a romantic entanglement. All the characters were center stage in turn and were interesting and well developed. A contemporary view of the classic Great House and Titled Family story. No boring little village and no trite Grand Reveal. Instead, an interesting solution.

Genuine Coming of Age Story
Revisado: 04-12-24
This is ideal for making into a screenplay for a full length movie. It isn’t the sappy coming of age story we tend to see now. The descriptions are rich in detail, but sometimes too much so. The fact that this is the authors, first story written with a loose structure, shows in that it could be tightened up somewhat. Overall, it is a good story with a variety of interesting characters.
