always a good story wrapped around cool physics ideas. I like his writing style too. not too verbose, always just enough exposition to allow you to see it in your mind.

So I have loved Dennis E. Taylor's books so far and his writing style is easy to read and his character development was pretty good in the Bob-I-Verse books and Singularity Trap. But this book was hard to get thru at first. The ideas of the story is what kept my interest most but the character development and the sudden (and frankly jarring) profusion of profanity in this book was off-putting. Not to mention that the cultural references were more apt for someone in the 40's or 50's than for college students. This was all just kind of distracting. However, glad I stuck in there - as the second half of the book seemed to have fixed a lot of the problems I mentioned. Suddenly the characters are more settled and less annoying. The story takes an awesome turn to something more exciting and also with better long term prospects than at the beginning. It almost felt like he started this book earlier in his writing career (like pre-"We Are Legion:) - put it down - and then picked it up more recently and finished it. The maturity of the writing seems vastly different between the beginning and the end. Ultimately, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the series. It ends in a great place and set up more fun for the future. Worth the read. If you are reading this. don't give up on the book in the beginning - it gets a lot better.

If you intend to read the series this is a must read installment that takes place after Steelheart and before Firefight. Entertaining and important later in the series. Highly recommend.

Admittedly, I had a hard time getting into this book. I had bought the book a while ago but only got around to reading/listening to it now. Did not realize it was a super-hero concept book. I have read several super-hero based books lately that have all been pretty lame ultimately. And then along comes this gem. I think the first parts of it were hard to get into because of my previous experience in the genre. But Sanderson turn the super-hero story on it's ear by having a mysterious (and as yet unexplained) premise for how super-heros/villians happen. As the story goes along there are subtle clues that get you guessing as to what is really going on. But the ending of this book was really spectacular. Highly recommend!

Sanderson is moving the story along in a pretty interesting direction. Some mysteries are being slowly revealed. Some new mysteries are appearing. Can't wait for the conclusion!

I know what you are thinking, When are they going to meet Tesla? Ok,so maybe you weren't thinking that. But lets just say that such a thing could happen given the time period and locations visited in the book. Also, I think the jig might be up for our girl disguised as a guy. But maybe not. If you don't read it you won't know for sure.

This a well written, really fun adventure written for the young adult audience. The story takes place in an alternate reality in the WW1 time frame. In this alternate reality, scientist in England have used the theories of Darwin to create useful creature that are crafted to help fight the war. At the same time Scientist in Germany have used the theories of Tesla and the like to created mechanical walking machines and other mechanized war machines. In the middle of all this are two young people on different side of this conflict. One is a young girl disguised as a boy in the airfleet of England, another a young Austrian prince. They meet and form a friendship and alliance. But will he ever find out she's a really a girl? And will she ever realize her feelings for him?
