The imagery for this meditation, highly symbolic, is a tad cheesy. It puts you in a setting called Property Hill, a lush hill covered in green grass. Then it starts talking about a lake and directs you to drink from the lake, prompting the thought, "How can I be next to a lake if I'm on a hill?"

It describes a beautiful sunny day with a deep blue sky and fluffy white clouds, birds chirping. The background sound effect: Rain... I don't know, maybe the sound of chirping birds might have been considered.

All of this has the effect of firing off the logical side of the brain with: This makes no sense. So then how can *any* of it make sense?

The narrator, which has the cadence and timbre of a text-to-speech program, you learn from the credits is an actual person. I don't know, maybe text-to-speech was the sound they were going for.

Bottom line: Consider other options for your wealth attraction meditation.

Matthew Perry knows how to write. He brings the same comedic timing to the page or, in this case, his audio book performance, as we know so well from his years of acting. Frequently, I found myself laughing out loud in the most unanticipated places.

First, I have to say he shouldn’t have listened to his editor and/or the marketing people. His original instinct to go with the title “Unaccompanied Minor” was perfect. I get that they wanted “Friends” in the title, but I’m pretty sure he has a best seller here, one way or the other.

I understand how difficult it can be to write about events from one’s own past and how it can take the writer back through all those old events as if astral projecting there. It is also therapeutic, in this case not just for the writer but for those who follow his experiences and learn from his insights. His impetus to help people has to be a powerful one to be able to put this story into words. Help people it will.

This is an amazing book that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in this type of material.

The book is an exploration of Monica’s gift as a spirit medium, both how it evolved in her own life, as well as the nature of our reality beyond our everyday physical existence. It is well written with a combination of casual language, humor, and clever metaphor.

At the top of the book, she recommends that we read/listen to it in the order presented and not skip to the chapters that most interest us. She does admit that it isn’t necessary to read/listen to the first few chapters that cover how her gift evolved in her own life, however I highly recommend these passages, especially for anyone who watched her television show, *Monica the Medium*. Her story is the hero’s journey in the tradition of Joseph Campbell, The Call to Adventure, the Refusal of the Call, etc.

Monica reads the book and proves to be a lovely narrator. I would have been disappointed had anyone else read it, since I’ve come to love and appreciate her voice throughout the two seasons of her television show. I always smiled when, on the show, Monica would quote her mother, flawlessly reproducing her mother’s Costa Rican accent. While Monica isn’t a voice actor, she often effectively pitches her voice differently when reading dialogue, for a subtle yet effective result.

I got the impression right away that this is her work, not the product of some hired ghostwriter, given her comment at the top of the book, "I don't plan to write another book for a long, long time." That's clearly the sentiment of someone who has journeyed through the arduous process of writing a book-length work. Her perseverance has paid off. As a writer, she proves engaging; as a narrator, easy to listen to. One is left both satisfied and wanting more.

The spirit medium phenomenon has validity. Seven year ago, I had a reading from a very good medium, during which two identical twin girls appeared saying that they’d wanted to be born to me but had never had the opportunity. At the time of the reading my wife of nearly two decades was past her child bearing years and we were perfectly happy with our three cats.

Fast forward two years later, when my wife and I amicably parted ways. At the time I decided to remain a solitary cat dad, a hey-you-kids-get-off-of-my-lawn kind of situation. Yet somehow, not trying, I met the perfect woman, married her, and now—seven years after the reading—she is pregnant... With identical twin girls.

What would have made The Key better?

If you buy into this story, it will likely scare the cheese out of you.

You already know the story: A man appears to WS, who calls he the Master of the Key, and imparts all kinds of esoteric information.

The trouble comes on multiple fronts, most notably that it reads like conversation WS is having with his inner or higher self, less than a real person. Indeed, WS isn't even sure The Master of the Key is "real."

It is written in a sort of Q & A dialogue, as if it was a transcribed from a recording, with highly complex and very specific answers . WS admits that he made notes during the actual conversation but could make no sense of them, so had to reconstruct the conversation over months and even years. It seems highly unlikely, as a word for word account, that this is true the actual conversation, assuming it in fact took place.

Moreover, the material presented is often self-contradictory, which WS himself often points out during the narrative itself. The resulting explanation of these contradictions, on more than one occasion, resulted in many eye rolls and oh-brothers.

It is, however, thought-provoking. So, cheese evacuation response aside, it does deserve a listen.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I started listening to this book as a palate cleanser after Betty Eadie's first book. Annoyed at how Eadie perceives everything through her Christian filter, I was hoping Chopra's work would provide a broader, more multicultural perspective. And it first he does well, bringing a wide angle lens approach to the topic.

However, when nearly halfway through the book he begins to ignore information and evidence that contradicts his Hindu Rishi's perspective, he loses all credibility and is as bad if not worse than Eadie. One can understand Eadie seeing a being of light and calling it Jesus, but Chopra's educated background provides him no excuse.
