Excruciatingly slow
Revisado: 11-14-23
Sorry, I think this would have been a better paperback for me. Just too drawn out.

Historia
When a deadly snowstorm strikes the Icelandic highlands, four friends seek shelter in a small, abandoned hunting lodge. It is in the middle of nowhere and there's no way of communicating with the outside world. They are isolated, but they are not alone. As the night darkens, and fears intensify, an old tragedy gradually surfaces—one that forever changed the course of their friendship. Those dark memories could hold the key to the mystery the friends now find themselves in. And whether they will survive until morning . . .

I tried listening to this and starting over. I normally love this author. This one didn’t click for me.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Wonderful Narration!

Seth was awesome. Some of the fantasyland stuff dragged on. I think I enjoyed the earthly part more. Good read.

Historia
Easter weekend is approaching, and snow is gently falling in Siglufjörður, the northernmost town in Iceland. Ari Thór Arason is now a police inspector, but he’s separated from his girlfriend, who lives in Sweden with their three-year-old son. A family reunion is planned for the holiday, but a violent blizzard is threatening and there is an unsettling chill in the air. Three days before Easter, a 19-year-old local girl falls to her death from the balcony of a house on the main street. A perplexing entry in her diary suggests that this may not be an accident.

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-20-21
Loved the other Ari Thor books. Rupture was very good. The 5th book in this series is not available via audiobook so I can speak to that. Winterkill was slow and didn’t have as much story development as the past books in the series. When it ended, I thought, “that’s it?”. I recommend Jonásson’s Huldah series. I usually really enjoy the pace of his boys and love hearing the Icelandic pronunciations. The Girl Who Died is a good single novel.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”
