Historia
Why do otherwise intelligent individuals form seething masses of idiocy when they engage in collective action? We may think that the Great Crash of 1929, junk bonds of the '80s, and over-valued high-tech stocks of the '90s are peculiarly 20th century aberrations, but Mackay's classic - first published in 1841 - shows that the madness and confusion of crowds knows no limits, and has no temporal bounds.

A fascinating book
Revisado: 02-16-23
A fascinating book written over a century, and a half ago, which shows that there is truly nothing under the sun. Whether it’s homeopathic medicine, astrology, crypto, or the mass hysteria of political ideologies, man cannot change.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Loved it
Revisado: 08-18-22
My only wish was that the author was the narrator of all his novels, as his voice is half the reason his words resonate.

Historia
From trade to technology to military might, competition between the United States and China dominates the foreign policy landscape. But this battle for global influence is also playing out in a strange and unexpected arena: the movies. The film industry, Wall Street Journal reporter Erich Schwartzel explains, is the latest battleground in the tense and complex rivalry between these two world powers. In recent decades, as China has grown into a giant of the international economy, it has become a crucial source of revenue for the American film industry.

A timely piece
Revisado: 04-29-22
A comprehensive, entertaining, and fairly alarming piece at a time of increasingly fraught global relations.

Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

One of the greatest books in American history
Revisado: 09-24-19
This book changed the way I think about everything, especially my favorite subject, American history. It has called into question everything I thought I held dear, and the narrator did an amazing job of bringing the words to life. I recommend this whole heartedly
