Fascinating… and outlandish

This is great storytelling, done well with Brian Emerson narrating. As some have pointed out, Emerson’s inflections, particularly at the ends of many sentences and, presumably, paragraphs, are odd… but the book is odd, so it kinda fits IMO.

The overall story is “entertaining” in a way. As many reviewers state, the author is clearly enamored with his narcissistic self. His self-flagellating “confessions” of “guilt” don’t match the veracity of his self-aggrandizing claims of involvement in not one, or even a half-dozen, world-and-its-peoples changing events & processes, but seemingly dozens. And that’s where the tale falls flat. It’s just not believable.

As a born-on-the-Fourth-of-July, white, male, Christian, red-blooded, middle-class, public school edumacated [sic], American Marine veteran, somewhat successful professional banker, real estate broker and small businessman, I don’t want it to be as true as it probably is — and yet, also *know* that it simply cannot be accepted as presented.

Is it an autobiography? A sober, accurate account of corporate greed’s all-pervasive web of deception run amok?

I don’t believe it’s any of those things outright — I’m not that naïve.

Neither am I so naïve that I believe it is patently false, an entire work of fiction, an anti-globalist, anti-American, anti-corporate screed chock full of lies.

Let me put it this way: while I wanted to say, “nah, this is bull****, no way…”, it was told so well that I could not put it down. That’s what I mean by “entertaining”.

Fascinating in that, and in how, it opened me to very different perspectives. Outlandish if taken at face value — just too much for one man, periodt. [sic]

Enjoy it. Make some thoughtful changes in your life — in your thinking — because of its lessons. But don’t go off the deep end. It simply cannot be taken at face value, without a large shaker of salt. So don’t do that. Be forewarned, though: I can see why one who wants to believe it would.

What an incredible imagination, mind, and skill Mr. Lewis had! Can’t wait to get into the third title of this trilogy.

…this book is a call to action, with appropriate information and motivation to make a disciple-maker of you. Narrated by the author, who pulls no punches as he lays out in plain language the situation, mission, and plan of action for followers of Christ. Well done!! Let’s go!! Come, Lord Jesus!!

While I enjoyed Sowell's poignant writings throughout the late 1990s and well into the first decade of the 2000s, I fell away, for whatever reason, during the Obama presidency -- when the vast majority of these essays were composed. Boy, did I miss an education! It's easy to see why today's Democrats and other "liberal" leftists and "moderates" don't invite Dr. Sowell to parties -- they can't keep up with the overwhelming challenges to the socioeconomic nonsense they espouse. Anyway, revisiting during the scamdemic shows this collection of writings ages well. Enjoy the education.

You will relate. I know I do. One gem I got from this audiobook: “What would happen if I were to cheer for myself as loudly as I cheer for my favorite team?” #BOOM.

Not what I was expecting. The author is a talented voice artist / impressionist / humorist / comedienne... but, rightly or wrongly, I expected something else, something more instructive. Oh, well. The price was right.

Scholarly tome on what in the world is going on in America today. 15 years after its first printing, Sowell’s brilliant research dissects the historical and sociological realities that led to today’s interesting - and perplexing - mix of culture in the US. What white liberals — and then the resulting flourishing of black rednecks — have done to the black race in this country, and around the world, is only surpassed in ghastliness by the most murderous and evil regimes, isms, and “choices” witnessed in all-too-recent history. Can’t fix a problem if you aren’t aware of its existence. Listen. At “free”, or “included” with your membership, there’s really no excuse not to.

I appreciate the author’s lifetime of service to the United States, his respect for the rule of law, and the sacrifices he made and risks he took to publish this book. Well done. Every American should listen / read — even if only skeptically. Let’s talk about it!!

Will be listening to this again and again! Warren Buffett is rumored to have read “Securities Analysis” 12 times before making any trades after his first, brief go-round in the stock market. Becoming a student of a few seminal tomes on perhaps the most important subject for anyone interested in gaining, maintaining and increasing influence with others just seems like a wise course of action. This book is fantastic!

1 of the most important books ever written for men

Eldredge penned one of the most important books for men, especially followers of Jesus Christ, ever written. His narration thereof was an invaluable addition to the audiobook... and yet is also the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, as he is just a little bit full of himself. It comes across in his message. It's not overpowering, but it's present. Literally the only flaw in a true masterpiece.
