Hit and Miss
Revisado: 11-09-23
Big Fan of Holly (the character). The Mr. Mercedes narrator captured her nuances much more to my personal liking. That is not to say that this narrator did not do a good job.
A little preachy and woke, which the author semi-addresses at the end.
Overall, not the best, not the worst. Still, Stephen King is one of the best horror/thriller writers.

Historia
After a bizarre and disturbing incident at the funeral of matriarch Marian Savage, the McCray and Savage families look forward to a restful and relaxing summer at Beldame, on Alabama's Gulf Coast, where three Victorian houses loom over the shimmering beach. Two of the houses are habitable, while the third is slowly and mysteriously being buried beneath an enormous dune of blindingly white sand. But though long uninhabited, the third house is not empty. Inside, something deadly lies in wait.

Very gripping
Revisado: 04-24-19
This is my first experience with Michael McDowell, and I will say that his pace is finely tuned. Although the story is nothing close to a shockfest, the building of intrigue and revealing of character purpose and virtue, or lack of, is pretty close to perfect. I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Historia
Indian Hill is about an ordinary boy who grows up in relatively normal times but who finds himself thrust into an extraordinary position. Growing up in suburban Boston, Michael enjoys the trials and tribulations that all adolescents go through, from the seemingly tyrannical mother, to girl problems, to run-ins with the law. From there he escapes to college out in Colorado with his best friend, Paul, where they begin to forge new relationships with those around them. It is one girl in particular that has caught Michael's eye, and he alternately pines for her and laments ever meeting her.

It took me a moment to get into this one, and I also had to adapt to the style of the performer. Once I committed, I was hooked. I will definitely check out the rest of this series.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

“Are you there, Satan? It’s me, Madison,” declares the whip-tongued 13-year-old narrator of Damned, Chuck Palahniuk’s subversive new work of fiction. The daughter of a narcissistic film star and a billionaire, Madison is abandoned at her Swiss boarding school over Christmas, while her parents are off touting their new projects and adopting more orphans. She dies over the holiday of a marijuana overdose—and the next thing she knows, she’s in Hell.

Palahniuk delivers in fashion
Revisado: 06-19-14
Because his writing style is very unique, it was nice to hear this narrated. Each of his novels have a different feel to them and sometimes it takes me a few chapters to get his technique. This was a very vulgar novel and grossly entertaining. If you're a fan, it's a must read/ listen.

I am a big fan of this author and these stories do not dissapoint. Seriously original ideas, and if you aren't sure you want to jump into the Jack Kilborn world, just read or listen to a few of these short stories and you might just be inclined to take that leap.
