Important Literary and Historical Criticism!
Revisado: 03-04-22
A refreshing and scholarly interaction with the genealogy recorded in The Gospel of Matthew.
The host argues the irony and deconstructionism found in this particular genealogy which provides incredible insight (and foresight) into themes surrounding both the text and the Matthean Jesus to come.
An important introduction and consideration of the text often skipped or skimmed over by readers in general.
Highly recommended!

A Proper Horror Story
Revisado: 02-13-19
This is the horror I signed up for!
A woman with a broken past has no idea how deep the rifts go when she returns with her family to bury an estranged father and settle the affairs of her childhood home. The family is quickly set upon by wicked ghosts and a vile demon bent on destroying them from the inside out.
Angry ghosts, demonic possessions, an ancient evil, and a haunted house with a terrible history. This tale is filled with nail biting twists and turns around every bend!
I highly recommend giving this book a read!

The Ouija board continues to be a popular means of entertainment for a wide variety of people: paranormal thrill-seekers, adventurous adolescents, temperamental teens, tipsy party guests, and even curious skeptics. Most of the time, those who dabble with the Ouija experience nothing out of the ordinary. But many times that's not the case. And many times that extraordinary experience isn't just strange, but downright awful.

An Interesting Collection of Short Stories
Revisado: 02-01-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this to a friend, or anyone, looking for an interesting collection of urban legends/anecdotes involving the paranormal and Ouija Boards. The book is a very quick read which can be listened to in a single sitting.
Would you be willing to try another book from John Harker? Why or why not?
The book was not quite what I expected. I'm not sure how reliable these "true tales" actually are, however, it was an enjoyable book, and I would consider getting another in the series.
What about Michael E. Smith’s performance did you like?
Michael E. Smith's performance was adequate. It wasn't the best performance, but it certainly wasn't the worst either.
If you could give Ouija Board Nightmares a new subtitle, what would it be?

If you think ghosts are only responsible for hauntings, think again. The Demonologist reveals the grave religious process behind supernatural events and how it can happen to you. Used as a text in seminaries and classrooms, this is one book you can't put down. For over five decades, Ed and Loraine Warren have been considered America's foremost experts on demonology and exorcism. With over 3,000 investigations to their credit, they reveal what actually breaks the peace in haunted houses. Don't miss the Warrens in the new blockbuster movie The Conjuring.

First Hand Insight from Humble Experts
Revisado: 11-22-16
What made the experience of listening to The Demonologist the most enjoyable?
The story and wisdom shared through the first hand experiences were conveyed with honest conviction. No apologies are ever offered for the knowledge and understanding the Warrens share. They have one overall goal, to expose and educate. They offer the evidence of their investigations and experience in a matter of fact tone - allowing the audience to simply take it, or leave it.
Conviction is a dying art in America. Speaking with certainty is often frowned upon by the current generation. When hearing their words expressed with no apologies, and without pandering, it was (for me) a source of relief and joy.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This isn't the type of story with fictional characters for one to love/hate. This story was the account of Ed and Lorraine Warren's experience with the paranormal. The accounts the author passes on in this writing are what make up the heart of this book.
What about Todd Haberkorn’s performance did you like?
Todd Haberkorn's smooth voice, inflections, and consistent voice acting brought a wonderful level of life and vibrancy to this book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The conclusions drawn by Ed and Lorraine after years of experience, research, and investigation were powerful. What they believe, and the truths they share, are not things arrived at lightly. The passion and conviction behind their expert wisdom, as a whole, I found to be mentally and spiritually stirring.

Frightful Tale That'll Keep You on Edge
Revisado: 11-08-16
What made the experience of listening to Let Me In the most enjoyable?
The narrator is the same guy who narrates "Peppa Pig," a kid show my child watches. It made the book that much more creepy!
What did you like best about this story?
The fully developed characters were engaging! The wicked twists in the stories caught me off guard! And I found myself cheering for the vampire! The moral ambiguity made for a hell of a ride from beginning to end of this twisted story.
Have you listened to any of Steven Pacey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He narrates "Peppa Pig," a show for children. I've heard his voice many times over the years in my house. My four year old listens to him through Peppa Pig all the time. That made this performance wickedly delightful.
Who was the most memorable character of Let Me In and why?
Oscar. Who doesn't love an underdog they can relate to?
Any additional comments?
It is a long book, but it keeps you hooked. The story draws you in to the lives of its inhabitants. Some you cheer on hoping to see them succeed. Other characters you love hating and can't wait to see them reap the suffering they've sewn.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Where does On Writing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This audiobook is at the top of my list when it comes to my favorite audiobooks listened to so far. I loved it so much that I bought a copy of the book to make notes in!
What was one of the most memorable moments of On Writing?
Mr. King's reflection on his marriage struck close to home. It caused me to look at my own marriage and strive to be the kind of husband to my wife that Mr. King is to his wife.
What about Stephen King’s performance did you like?
I felt like I was at a heartfelt lecture. This wasn't just a reading of a book, or a mere performance, this was Mr. King sharing his life with the listener. It was intimate.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book hit me in the heart. It left me with much to think about. Not just on the craft on writing, but on life, relationships, family, hardships, and perseverance. I took so much away from this book.
Any additional comments?
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft isn't just for aspiring writers, or fans of Stephen King. It has valuable life lessons and insights that anyone who picks up this book, or listens to the audiobook, can draw from.

Now they are about to endure another: 14-year-old Margaret Larkin will be robbed of her innocence and her life by a killer who is beyond the reach of the law. But something strange is happening in Babylon: traffic lights flash an eerie blue, a ghostly hand slithers from the drain of a kitchen sink, graves erupt from the local cemetery in an implacable march of terror.

Incredible Tale of Small Town Horror
Revisado: 11-08-16
If you could sum up Cold Moon over Babylon in three words, what would they be?
Brilliant beautiful storytelling!
A family plagued by hardship and tragedy is wronged in the worst ways by powerful people suffering from a terrible god complex. Those wrongs are set right in a deliciously satisfying way when the paranormal and unnatural steps in to repay wrong doing in full.
What other book might you compare Cold Moon over Babylon to and why?
I wouldn't. I can't. I won't! This book stands out wonderfully!
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
The story was not read, it was performed; beautifully. I was drawn in by Scott Brick's narration and character portrayal.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Not even death will abide evil men forever.
Any additional comments?
I was captivated by this story from the very beginning. I cared about the characters immensely. I felt their worries, fears, pain, joys, and everything in between. When loss was suffered by specific characters, I felt that loss right along with them.
The twists and turns of this tale had me on edge waiting for the next line.

Reads Like a First Draft. Lots of Potential.
Revisado: 11-08-16
What would have made The Ghost Files (The Ghost Files - Book 1) better?
Character development. The characters were flat. The protagonist felt a need to tell the reader over and over again she was a tough girl with strong walls built to keep people at bay, yet every cute boy that arrived on scene melted her walls away with little more than a charming smile.
The relationship between the 16 year old protagonist and the 23 year old cop was unbelievable, weak, a little creepy, and a little too "Pretty Little Liars." This was the kind of writing you would expect to see on a teen drama debuting on Free Form.
What could Apryl Baker have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Show. Don't tell.
Emotions were stated more often than shown. Descriptions were repeated verbatim with little expansion. The words said what the writer wanted to say, but didn't convey the depth and meaning of them.
Be truthful with the reader. If your protagonist is a hardened girl with walls to plow through and a chip on her shoulder, don't let her actions contradict that. For a girl who "doesn't cry," she wept often. Her walls were bypassed by cute boys showering her with attention. The world seemed to be "all eyes on her" which shouldn't have been the case for a girl who was trying to keep her head low and make it through life unharmed by negative emotions.
How could the performance have been better?
The performance was unique. The narrator sounded very young which captured the image of the protagonist well. Some of the voices given to other characters (especially to the older men and "Mrs. O") were not well selected - adding comedy where none was intended.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was disappointed the book didn't deliver on its promises. This is in part due to writing, but also in part due to Audible's advertising method (i.e., how the book came across my feed). I went in unaware that this was a YA book. It was advertised as horror - a young girl who can see spirits and is forced to face them. It wasn't advertised as YA horror which is a completely different realm than what I'm used to.
Also the audio editing needs work. There are parts that repeat themselves before progressing on. Audio quality was rough in several spots.
Any additional comments?
I gave the story three stars because OVERALL it is a good story. There is so much potential and room for growth. There were great little twists and turns. I had fun pushing through to the end of the story, but I shouldn't feel like I have to "push through."
I wish the author would have spent more time developing her characters and showing us the horrific world her protagonist must face. I wish an editor, friend, advisor, anyone, would have helped her reign in some of the repetitions and tangents; helped her focus.
It felt like I was reading the first draft of a neat story that needed a little help and guidance. I hope that Ms. Baker comes back and revisits this story. With some fine tuning she could set this story on fire.
