Historia
Behind the curtain of her happy on-screen persona, Valerie Bertinelli’s life has been no easy ride, especially when it comes to her own self-image and self-worth. She waged a war against herself for years, learning to equate her value to her appearance as a child star on One Day at a Time and punishing herself in order to fit into the unachievable Hollywood mold. She struggled to make her marriage to Eddie Van Halen—the true love of her life—work, despite all the rifts the rock-star lifestyle created between them.

Heartfelt and touching
Revisado: 11-28-22
I enjoyed the book and was glad to hear Val is learning to love herself. I didn’t think the book benefited from the recipes and to me, took away from the story. Also I liked that she didn’t trash anyone. (I dislike books that tell all the hurts and put blame on others.). Thanks Val for not doing that. It would be a four or even five star book if it had more stories and less lists about what she feel she needs to work on.

But even Wolfe has a moment’s doubt when he finds out why the prize is so generous. For the oversize genius and his able assistant Archie Goodwin are about to lock horns with the FBI - and those highly trained G-men have a way with threats, tails, and bugs that could give even sedentary sleuth Nero Wolfe a run for his money.

Fabulous book!
Revisado: 06-09-20
I love Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books but definitely some are better than others. This one is at the very top - my favorite of all that I’ve read. It had humor, intrigue, and an impossible situation that Nero needed to a devise a way out of to a satisfy his client. My hat is tipped to you Mr. Stout! Well done!!

Very unbelievable
Revisado: 04-09-20
The story was very unbelievable. The characters were interesting but the storyline awful. The ending was even worse being so far out from reality. I finished the book more out of loyalty for having been a fan of Sun Dunlap's past books.

A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

Too gruesome, too many characters
Revisado: 09-25-18
Well I loved Paula Hawkins book “the girl on the train,” this book was just OK. There were too many characters and too many deaths. It was confusing to keep track and very unbelievable. However the performances were well done and I did finish the story.

Entertaining but predictable
Revisado: 04-04-18
This story had well developed characters, an interesting plot but was very predictable in several aspects. However, the characters were well developed and interactions well written. I enjoyed hearing how the story developed even if I knew the general outcome.

Best book so far in the series
Revisado: 06-17-17
What made the experience of listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Book 5 the most enjoyable?
The narration is excellent! I have read this book before but listening to it read by Jim Dale, it was sublime!
What did you like best about this story?
Harry gives into the temptation to learn more about something he's told not to pursue. This was believable since he is just a teen and really not very mature yet. This made the story more realistic.
Which character – as performed by Jim Dale – was your favorite?
Hermoine. She is always a back burner character but in this book, she showed her empathy and emotion more that ever before. Also, that she is maturing more quickly than her friends, Ron and Harry.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, way too long! But great for a long road trip.
Any additional comments?
Loved the story and that Dumbledore finally told Harry the truth, even if hard to hear. I thought the last chapters went on a bit too long, kind of after the main ending was over. Perhaps Rowling couldn't figure out how to reveal certain facts in the story and had to just present them in these final chapters. A bit clunky but still, an awesome book.

Historia
When evil strikes a loved one, it can make us crazy. We can't think rationally enough to get revenge ourselves, so we shouldn't. But Nero Wolfe ignores reason when someone guns down a close friend in cold blood. He vows to collar the killer personally, and it thrusts him into the gravest danger of his career.

not remotely believable
Revisado: 06-17-17
What did you like best about The Black Mountain? What did you like least?
It was nice to have Nero out of the Brownstone but really, the story was so farfetched! And there was quite a bit of violence and even torture. Not a typical Rex Stout by far.
What could Rex Stout have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Make the story take place in another location. Also, the criminals were too dumb, make them have a bit of intelligence, please.
Which scene was your favorite?
The part where Nero Wolfe doesn't want to even take off his shoes as he is too afraid his feet will be so swollen, he won't be able to put them back on.
Could you see The Black Mountain being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No
Any additional comments?
This book was a disappointment.

Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.
