Historia
It’s the late 1960s, and two lovers converge on an arid patch of earth in South India. John Walker is the handsome scion of a powerful East-Coast American family. Diane Maes is a beautiful hippie from Belgium. They have come to build a new world - Auroville, an international utopian community for thousands of people. Their faith is strong, the future bright. So how do John and Diane end up dying two decades later, on the same day, on a cracked concrete floor in a thatch hut by a remote canyon? This is the mystery Akash Kapur sets out to solve in Better to Have Gone.

Thank Mother I’m finished

Boring, boring, boring, but I’m too stubborn to give up on a book. The interesting parts of this book could have been told in about 10 minutes.

Historia
An achingly beautiful work of historical fiction, Send for Me moves between Germany on the eve of World War II and present-day Wisconsin, unspooling a thread of love, longing, and the powerful bonds of family.

Like nails on a chalkboard!
Revisado: 03-12-22
I appreciated the story and would have rated the book much higher, but the narrator’s voice was beyond annoying. I had to turn up the speed to 1.5 to even make it bearable. It was whiny and quivery and just horrible! Who screens these readers? I would definitely recommend this one to be read by yourself.

Historia
"As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I'm still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me...." Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love - all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story. Welcome to Christine's life.

Like nails grating on a chalkboard

The story is just ok so far (less than halfway through). I find it drags a little. But hardest for me is the narrator’s voice. Don’t know why but I find it quite annoying, especially when she reads voices other than the main characters. If I quit this book before finishing, this will be the reason!
