Historia
Outsourcing and a trim corporate profile enabled Coke to scale up production of a low-price beverage and realize huge profits. But the costs shed by Coke have fallen on the public at large. Coke now uses an annual 79 billion gallons of water, an increasingly precious global resource, and its reliance on corn syrup has helped fuel our obesity crisis. Bartow J. Elmore explores Coke through its ingredients, showing how the company secured massive quantities of coca leaf, caffeine, sugar, and other inputs.

Listen to Joe Rogan episode instead
Revisado: 08-28-23
I was brought to this book by the episode of Joe Rogan with Bartow Elmore (author of this book) and it was incredibly interesting. I should have stopped there I did not gain much new information from the book. It feels like it could have been so much more exciting of a story.

Very very very DRY
Revisado: 07-26-23
As a history buff, I was VERY displeased at how dry this topic was. I choose this as a fun alternative to my normal history listens. There were so many missed opportunities for fun stories, or entertaining insight on such good topics across history, but it was completely lacking. Very hard to pay attention to when listening because it was just the same thing over and over regarding mankind moving to a new place, creating a new alcohol, and so on and so forth. I was really surprised from the reviews I read previous to listening to this book, because they were all misleading!

Great road trip book!
Revisado: 06-29-23
Mike Rowe is a fascinating storyteller, and the way the stories were written had me questioning my vast knowledge of history! It almost felt like trivia, with a twist. Loved every second of it, and the way it was presented in the book, without having to sift through podcasts which I am not a fan of!

Awesome story and presentation from a casual fan!
Revisado: 03-02-23
I was really, really impressed with this books. Being a casual jiu jitsu fan and having never practiced it made me interested in this book but feared I would not have enough background knowledge. That was not the case, and I thoroughly enjoyed his storytelling and outlook on the reality of life.

Hard to listen to…like listening to an Enclyclopedia

As a social studies teacher I wanted to learn more about the history of Spain. Even being a lover of history, this was more like listening to an encyclopedia being read. I am not sure I retained one thing.
