Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Fantastic. Truly fantastic. I’m sad there is not more. I will for sure be listening to this series again and again.

Just as surprising as the first!

I so appreciate this authors ability to create gut wrenching moments that, at times, had me yelling out in anguish. Well done.

Historia
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: Humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life - and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control. Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe - a role that neither wants. These teens must master the "art" of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Such good plot twists!
Revisado: 02-09-24
There were several moments where I audibly gasped because of the plot, so good. I don’t usually listen to fiction novels, and I absolutely recommend this one. It’s phenomenal. I will also be listening to the other ones in the series!

Historia
On April 10, 1834, firefighters smashed through a padlocked attic door in the burning Royal Street mansion of Creole society couple Delphine and Louis Lalaurie. In the billowing smoke and flames they made an appalling discovery: the remains of Madame Lalaurie's chained, starved, and mutilated slaves. This house of horrors in the French Quarter spawned a legend that has endured for more than 150 years. But what actually happened in the Lalaurie home? Rumors about her atrocities spread as fast as the fire. But verifiable facts were scarce.

Good details
Revisado: 12-30-23
The details of the story were good but I imagine could have been gathered from any of the resources they listed throughout the book. Lots of repeating info in chapters. Good-ish conjectures on what really happened. It’s a quick listen but okay at best.

In KL, Wachsmann fills this glaring gap in our understanding. He not only synthesizes a new generation of scholarly work, much of it untranslated and unknown outside of Germany, but also presents startling revelations, based on many years of archival research, about the functioning and scope of the camp system.

Thorough telling of the history
Revisado: 12-29-23
This was recommended to me from the Illinois Holocaust Museum and it was excellent. It did not gloss over details and did not focus solely on Auschwitz Birkenau, as some accounts tend to do. Lots of quotes from survivors and prisoners gives a clear picture of how the camps ramped up in severity. Long read. Much worth it.
