Remarkable
Revisado: 01-08-17
This is a refreshing take on science fiction. The writing style is so lacking in pretension and is so filled with humour that you almost forget the remarkable science in this science fiction.
Probably the best sci-fi I have come across in years. I can't wait for future books!

Historia
From Joshua Dalzelle comes the follow-up to the number-one best seller Warship. Captain Jackson Wolfe survived the initial incursion of a vicious alien species into human space...barely. He had assumed the juggernaut that had devastated three Terran systems was the herald for a full invasion, but for the last few years it has been eerily quiet along the Frontier. Jackson now struggles to convince the Confederate leadership the threat is still imminent and needs to be taken seriously.

Great story with so much potential.
Revisado: 04-28-16
This is a great book through 90% of it. The end, the plot twist that saves the day, is in many ways a disappointing way to resolve the challenge faced by the characters.
I look forward to the third book, this is good writing overall, with a well thought out technical storyline that "feels" real. Well done and enjoyable.

Historia
This is the story of the average Canadian who volunteered for the Canadian Expeditionary Force told through the lens of one battalion - the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish) of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division. This Highland Regiment fought in the Ypres Salient and in the Somme, at Vimy, Passchendaele, and Amiens. It suffered the first gas attack; its ranks were decimated as it fought at virtually every major battle in the European theatre.

Great story, sub-standard narration.
Revisado: 04-12-16
The story is great, and well worth the buy. However, the narrator makes so many pronunciation errors, one suspects that the narrator has never lived in Canada. Not knowing how to pronounce Canadian cities is off-putting, but overall, the story is great. Do order it!

A good story
Revisado: 03-06-16
I enjoy this series. It is at its best when it deals with space exploration, meeting new life and discovery.
The storyline is a bit tedious in regards to Colonel Riggs being the untrained senior officer who is more often taking the role of a Sgt rather than commanding the battle. Colonels don't typically lead assaults that any Lt or Sgt could handle.
Other than this one quibble it is a solid story and worth the read.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-28-15
It seems a rather poor editing was done in this latest story in the Ark Royal series.
Not a bad story, but poorly researched rank structures and command relationships combined with a lack of focus in moving along the story, made this instalment notably inferior to the other quality works by the author.
I'll still order the next book if there is another, based on the quality of the earlier books, but be prepared to hold your nose a bit on this one, it is not up to the standard we have come to expect in this series.
