Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

Great Writing/Great Reading
Revisado: 04-02-25
The book has a tense and gripping story but the most remarkable thing about the book is the author’s ability to capture the intensity of life in Belfast during a key segment of the Troubles and how people tried to carry on. The characters are skillfully wrought and you feel like you really know these people by the end of the book. The reader is superlative. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

In London, twenty-six-year-old Venetia Stanley—aristocratic, clever, bored, reckless—is part of a fast group of upper-crust bohemians and socialites known as “The Coterie.” She’s also engaged in a clandestine love affair with the Prime Minister, H. H. Asquith, a man more than twice her age. He writes to her obsessively, sharing the most sensitive matters of state.

Unbelievably interesting
Revisado: 01-12-25
It is hard to believe that this novel is based on actual correspondence. If you were not informed of this fact in the first minute you would question the author’s excess creativity. Knowing that fact makes this story hypnotic—constantly asking yourself how a country’s leader in war time could be so self absorbed and delusional. Great rendition of this period by the author and excellent reading.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.
