Historia
A funny and heart-warming coming-of-age story, set in a rural Australian community, about 17-year-old Jackson finding the courage to explore who he is, even if it scares him. 'I don't paint so much anymore,' I say, looking to my feet. 'Oh. Well, I got a boy who needs to do some art. You can help him out,' Aunty Pam says, like I have no say in the matter, like she didn't hear what I just said about not painting so much anymore. 'Jackson, this is Tomas. He's living with me for a little while.'

Sweet coming of age
Revisado: 05-13-24
Exposure to queer indigenous voices and stories has become more urgent to me of late. This is a solid coming of age story that depicts the cultural belonging as well as the racialize aggressions that press in on the lives of indigenous communities. I enjoyed it.

Historia
Duty, honor, and sacrifice. Dedicating my life to these elements, for family and country, leaves little for myself in return. It's why I indulge in a no-strings hookup with a handsome stranger mere days before heading half-a-world away. Except one night turns into a week-long fling, creating a connection at the most inopportune time. And neither of us want it to end. Staying in touch is easy at first, but dwindles to radio silence and distant memories as time passes.

Shallow, trite
Revisado: 05-11-24
Pulpy, formulaic. I don’t have a reason to care about these characters. Disappointing. Move along to something less insulin resistant.

Historia
Reclusive comic book artist Trip Spector spends his life doodling super-square, straitlaced superheroes, hiding from his fans, and crushing on his unattainable boss until he meets the dork of his dreams. Silas Goolsby is a rowdy FX makeup creator with a loveless love life and a secret streak of geek who yearns for unlikely rescues and a truly creative partnership. Against their better judgment, they fall victim to chemistry, and what starts as infatuation quickly grows tender and terrifying.

Snappy writing
Revisado: 04-30-24
Not being a comic buff, the world these characters live in was new to me. I enjoyed this story though. Mr. Suade’s writing style is dynamic and evocative. Charlie David’s narration was middling. At least 10 times he simply misread a word, mangling the writing, i.e saying “egregarious” when the word was “egregious”. Shame these fumbles weren’t caught by a producer or editor of the audio narration.

Historia
Tobias Jackson grew up in Coburn, a town where the gay population equaled exactly one: him. Add that to the fact that his dream guy was his best friend's jerky older brother, Levi Baxter, and it made hooking up virtually impossible. Now home from college for winter break, Toby is a different person. He left Coburn for San Francisco, where he wasn't the lone gay guy and the only black kid in town. And yeah, he took advantage of what the city had to offer. Apparently Toby isn't the only one who's changed.

Masterpiece!
Revisado: 04-05-24
I’m trying to discern what aspect of this work I find most awe-inspiring. Perhaps it is the impact of innovative structure attuned to the temporal sweep of the piece. But everything else about it is gorgeous too. I’ll read this at least twice more before my life ends the me who can weep for the ravages of such a collective and personal nostalgia.

I’m Logan Lewis: popular, charming, and athletic. All the girls love me. Yep, I’ve really got it made. Then I find myself in danger of failing my chemistry class and losing my sports scholarship. I know the only person who can save me is the smartest science tutor on campus. Theo Reign is brilliant. He’s also cold, antisocial, moody, and mean. He looks at me like he hates me, but touches me like he wants me. There’s something just beneath the surface that draws me in. His secret pain mirrors my own, and I suddenly find myself craving him.

Typical formulae. Overly emotional. Same tired, ill-crafted conflicts and trite resolutions. Fortunately, I bought it at a steep reduction.

Historia
For the first time New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice writes as C. Travis Rice. Under his pen name, Rice offers tales of passion, intrigue, and steamy romance between men. The first novel, SAPPHIRE SUNSET, transports you to a beautiful luxury resort on the sparkling Southern California coast where strong-willed heroes release the shame that blocks their heart's desires.

Narration performance entirely ruins this story
Revisado: 03-23-22
Unfortunately, the narration performance is the downfall of this Audible book. It entirely destroys the novel. Another writer who is unable to discern that their work must be carried to market by others who know better than they do how to best showcase their work.. The story itself is likely pretty good, for what it is. Too bad.

Historia
In this village, I’m an outcast: Griffin Everett, the scowling giant who prefers plants to people. Then I meet Keynes, a stranger from the city who’s everything I’m not: sharp-tongued, sophisticated, beautiful. Free. For a few precious moments in a dark alleyway, he’s also mine, hot and sweet under the stars...until he crushes me like dirt beneath his designer boot. When the prettiest man I’ve ever hated shows up at my job the next day, I’m not sure if I want to strangle him or drag him into bed. Actually - I think I want both. But Keynes isn’t here for the likes of me.
