Historia
A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner - an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief - is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down. Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with.

As usual, quite wonderful
Revisado: 09-13-10
David Rosenfelt has won my heart with his 'doggie' mysteries. I was so very happy to discover this latest one. I have them all in my library and they are the only books I listen to more than once. Grover Gardner is the perfect reader for Andy Carpenter. Mr. Rosenfelt's sense of humor is great - he has me laughing frequently throughout. And I love all the characters, even Edna! Highly recommend; even more so if you love dogs and a good laugh like I do.

Loved it, loved it, loved it
Revisado: 09-13-10
This book kept me up nights because I was so involved with the characters I couldn't stop listening, anxiously awaiting the next development. Very funny - just adored Emma. Dex had his moments of being so shallow I almost couldn't stand it, but there was a softness about him that redeemed him in my eyes. Very sorry about the ending though. Had to listen to the 'twist' twice just to make sure I had heard right. Even so, I found the book very satisfying and the reader was fantastic. Will definitely listen to her again.

Might have been better
Revisado: 09-13-10
I have never written a negative review before, but after about 15 minutes of listening to this story I had to stop. Just couldn't take the monotone, boring reader any longer. The story might well have been a good one, but if you can't stand the reader, what's the point. A masterpiece can be ruined by one.

Good, but hard to listen to
Revisado: 04-16-08
I would almost prefer to give this 1 star, and wish I could have given it 4 because it IS a good story. However, Tony Roberts' narration is so bad if makes it difficult to listen to. His accents are terrible - all of them. And even his general voice was affected. It made me cringe. Then his pronunciation of "Spokane" sounding like rain! GRRR! Kept thinking "now if George Guidall or Grover Gardner were reading this, it would be fantastic!" If you can tolerate really bad narration, go ahead and get this book, otherwise never mind.

Historia
Few can rival attorney Andy Carpenter's affection for golden retrievers, especially his own beloved Tara. After he astonishes a New Jersey courtroom by successfully appealing another golden's death sentence, Andy discovers that this gentle dog is a key witness to a murder that took place five years before. Andy pushes the boundaries of the law even further as he struggles to free an innocent man by convincing an incredulous jury to take canine testimony seriously. It will take all the tricks Andy's fertile mind can conceive to get to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and murder, and to save a dog's life - and his own - in the process.

Historia
A South African antiques dealer is murdered with a single bullet from an M-16 assault rifle. The contents of his safe are missing, and the only clues are a scrap of blank paper and the unusual weapon used: a gun that's generally the choice of mercenaries, not burglars. Now ex-cop Zed van Heerden has seven days to fill in the blanks in this dead man's past - a past that appears only to start in 1983.

Great read!
Revisado: 02-13-08
I almost didn't buy this one, but am so glad I did. Would definitely buy something else by this author. The reader is excellent -- all the South African accents were superb, but then the reader is South African (I think) so that makes sense. The story rolls right along, becoming more intriguing as it goes and the lead character is terrific. A great listen. I highly recommend it.

The Associate
Revisado: 02-13-08
I will listen to almost anything Scott Brick reads and this was a very good story. However, I was very disappointed that the director didn't catch the mispronunciation of the Willamette River (it has a short a) and at the very end, the word mischievous was classically mispronounced as mischievious. There are only 2 i's in mischievous, not three. Grrrrr. Set my teeth on edge! Come on Scott, you can and do do better!

Boring

Ted Kerasote met and adopted Merle, a Labrador mix, while he was on a camping trip. Merle had been living in the wild, and after taking the dog home with him to Wyoming, Kerasote soon realized that Merle could not adjust to inhabiting exclusively the human world. So he put a door in his house to let Merle live both outside and in. A deeply touching portrait of a remarkable animal, Merle's Door explores the issues that all animals and their human companions face.

Truly wonderful!
Revisado: 07-24-07
This is without a doubt one of the most wonderful books I have ever listened to. I was apprehensive at first about buying it, but gave in to my love of dogs and did so. I am so glad I did.
This book is very amusing -- I had a smile on my face almost all the way through. It is also very educational. The combination of the author's descriptions of Merle's behavior and the reader's interpretation of his 'voice' are just great. This story -- Ted's relationship with Merle -- is very moving. Since listening to the book I have seen the hardcover and there is a photo of the two of them which expresses exactly the love between them, which is captured beautifully in the audio. All the peripheral characters are fleshed out well without interrupting Merle's story; they simply add to it.
The book flows effortlessly and I didn't want it to end. I highly recommend - a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
