WITHOUT A DOUBT THE ABSOLUTE WORST GRIMNOIR VOLUME
Revisado: 03-20-20
I've enjoyed all of the editions of the Grimnoir Chronicles, but this one's a clunker. The recording is tinny and the narrations uncharistic for the rest of the series. The style is like a parody of a Mickey Spillane novel. Quite reminiscent of an old Jack Webb Dragnet soundtrack. The style and narration was so bad I can't even form an opinion of the storyline. All and all a complete waste of a credit.

Well written entrancing story excellently Narrated
Revisado: 11-09-18
You know an author has it when you listen to 148 hours of story and are left wanting more , The story line is fresh for a series of this genre (at least to me). The subplots are novels in their own right. They are skillfully woven into the fabric of the main story that is still unfolding in a fashion that leaves me anxiously waiting for more. Some (or many) fans of the series would naysay me on this but I think this series stands comparable to "Game of Thrones"

A cut above the average apocalypse story
Revisado: 03-07-17
Would you listen to Darkness Brutal again? Why?
No but that's just because I prefer to move on than revisit. Also It's written such that there is little obscurity or ambiguity to make retakes necessary to follow the plot. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Author has opened some interesting possibilities & I hope that I am not disappointed.
What did you like best about this story?
Blends mythos, religion, and folklore without committing to any. Any subscriber to any of the belief systems could find a common ground within. (well maybe not a raging religious fanatic of any faith, but I doubt they'd start the book to begin with)
What does Will Damron bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He brings me the story. My eyes don't tolerate the strain of reading much any more. Audible books have returned the pleasure of painting the "movie" in my head as opposed to watching it on the screen. I would say that I avoid narrators that grate on my nerves, prescreening all audios & avoiding any I find irritating .On a par with John Lee,Tim Reynolds,Ralph Lister, or Ray Chase.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Couldn't say without spoilers

Yet another Zombie Apocalypse
Revisado: 02-08-17
What disappointed you about The Extinction Cycle Boxed Set?
Not sure what I expected from an apocalypse yarn. I opted for the book because it was a long program for a single credit. Been lucky so far with the boxed sets & omnibus editions. Unfortunately a couple of hours into this & I cannot see how he's going to drag this out for 3 books. Rapidly loosing interest. The author may yet pull this out of mediocrity but I'm loosing patience. Might come back to it some time when I'm really desperate for a book. The character development seemed lackluster at best , stereotypical mostly.
What could Nicholas Sansbury Smith have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Picked another topic...
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
yes, deadpan & dull.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Extinction Cycle Boxed Set?
I probably shouldn't comment here
Any additional comments?
Possibly a good choice for any who Like any and All zombie apocalypse stories

If you don't like suspense wait for the sequel
Revisado: 08-30-16
Would you listen to Dawn of Wonder again? Why?
No. story evolved slowly and was memorable enough to stick even in my old memory.
would not have the patience to reread it. Aside from that I don't tend to reread stories, and prefer to go on to something new. I think the only fiction I've ever read more than once was
Tolkien and that was after over 40 years later. Maybe if I live another 40 years I'll reread (re listen) this one
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dawn of Wonder?
without spoilers, I'd guess when the protagonist faced his demon
Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes - excellent & on a par with any of the performance I've listened to and liked
both Tim's and others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
could't have stayed with it that long but was anxious to return to it when time allowed.
Any additional comments?
To the author's credit I can't wait until the next book comes out... Wish I'd have waited till the series was complete... would have been great for one of my cross country drives.
As to the book on the whole, the characters are brought to life in a realistic way that engages the reader to tend to establish relationships with each ... Love hate empathy irritation admiration ...seems to hit on them all. Very good at building Villains you love to hate and the protagonist dances near the antihero at times. I could actually relate most of the characters to people I have met in my life.(especially a few of the jerks).
On the subject of the story itself, I'd have to say that in terms of the underlying story it seems to drag on quit a bit. I'm really anxious to see where that's going. The author's left it wide open and has some very interesting paths that he could take it down. I have a feeling that there's quite a few more books to be woven out of this beginning. On the upside, the slow pace of the main plot allows for numerous interesting subplots that go far to develop the characters and keep the reader engaged.
I could compare the story to a TV series that has an ultimate destination for its story but each episode stands alone as a story in itself.

A GOOD POTENTIAL STORY LINE BUT
Revisado: 08-23-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
story line has potential BUT author is WAY to preoccupied with adolescent hormonal rages and her descriptions thereof WAY overdone. I'm just a few chapters in & already loosing interest. If you like twilight like stories you'd probably like this
Has Darkness Fair turned you off from other books in this genre?
depends on what genre you'd put this in
Which character – as performed by Will Damron and Kate Rudd – was your favorite?
none
Do you think Darkness Fair needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
not the way this one is going
