Historia
England, 1927. When Lord Edgington hears of a failed attack on an eccentric viscount, it’s the perfect excuse to get out of seeing horrible relatives over Christmas. With his loyal grandson and their golden retriever along for the ride, he sets off to investigate, but on arriving at the snowbound manor house on the English coast, they find that the wrong man has been killed. It is not the rich tyrant who lies dead on the floor of the grand salon, but one of his many bickering heirs.

another fun mystery.
my only regret is another female character that is dishonest and leads poor Christopher along. Holly was overacting from start to finish. I love Granny though!

Historia
In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right.

Historia
Adopted into the household of her uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram, Fanny Price grows up a meek outsider among her cousins in the unaccustomed elegance of Mansfield Park. Soon after Sir Thomas absents himself on estate business in Antigua (the family's investment in slavery and sugar is considered in the Introduction in a new, post-colonial light), Mary Crawford and her brother Henry arrive at Mansfield, bringing with them London glamour, and the seductive taste for flirtation and theatre that precipitates a crisis.

oh where is Stephanie Daniels, THE VOICE of Phryne Fisher,?
Revisado: 03-31-24
the book does not have as well crafted plot as we have come to expect from miss fisher. making this even more apparent is the narrator. the differences in the characters voices was not enough to distinguish between them. the book blended and merged into an undistinguished narration.

scariest story I have ever heard AND it's true.
Revisado: 02-08-24
I live in Wyoming and have never been a political fan of any of the Cheneys. Liz Cheney has a will of steel and the intelligence to communicate information powerfully. this book and her actions concerning January 6th make me admire her and her strength of character. I will never share her political values, but I share her love of country and importance of the constitution.
Don't skip a single word of her narrative. she communicates the events in such a way to make them clear to all. I just wish the lies weren't still persisting.

Using a travel guide format, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee acts as tour guide extraordinaire, describing and critiquing every aspect of this territory she knows so well: its people (young and old, male and female), familiar phrases ("purl this, darn that"), strange beliefs, currency (skein trading), etiquette, holidays (any sale day at the local yarn shop), and customs. She notes important dates in knitting history and celebrates unsung knitting heroes.

A knithiker's guide to the yarniverse!
Revisado: 09-12-23
Knitters have such amazing stories and funny "in jokes" as Stephanie enjoyably relates. the best part is her trip into the paths to knitting. we all arrived in knitting land on a different path, or string if you like. once there, we find any number of reasons to stay and many knitters to befriend. Stephanie is great! (one small downside - sometimes hard to listen to her Eastern Canada accent. mostly the word "project".) :]

These stories were fun at the beginning but the use of phrases that don't fit in the 20's and other inconsistencies are making me nuts! The scene at the baseball game was just over the top ridiculous. I think I am done with the Mortimers.

Historia
Bruce Attleton dazzled London’s literary scene with his first two novels, but his early promise did not bear fruit. His wife, Sybilla, is a glittering actress, unforgiving of Bruce’s failure, and the couple lead separate lives in their house at Regent’s Park. When Bruce is called away on a sudden trip to Paris, he vanishes completely until his suitcase and passport are found in a sinister artist’s studio, the Belfry, in a crumbling house in Notting Hill, and Inspector Macdonald must uncover Bruce’s secrets. This intricate mystery from a classic writer is set in a superbly evoked London of the 1930s.

Historia
At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait, Egan's book tells the remarkable untold story behind Edward Curtis's iconic photographs, following him throughout Indian country from desert to rainforest as he struggled to document the stories and rituals of more than eighty tribes. Even with the backing of Theodore Roosevelt and J.P. Morgan, it took tremendous perseverance. The undertaking changed him profoundly, from detached observer to outraged advocate.

having seen the Curtis portraits for most all of my life, I knew he must have been an extraordinary photographer. I am in awe of his dedication, although mildly disappointed in his tunnel vision to the detrement of his family and friends. realizing what he accomplished in this lifetime's work, it is understandable.
