Historia
Be careful what you wish for. A small town librarian lives a quiet life without much excitement. One day, she mutters an idle wish and, while standing in her house, is struck by lightning. But instead of ending her life, this cataclysmic event sparks it into a new beginning. She goes in search of Lazarus Jones, a fellow survivor who was struck dead, then simply got up and walked away. Perhaps this stranger who has seen death face to face can teach her to live without fear.

Not impressed
Revisado: 12-05-22
My professor is crazy about Alice Hoffman, so I bought this book based on her recommendation. Maybe I just bought the wrong book, maybe I am not getting something but the story and the style feels flat to me.

Hart covers what writers in this genre need to know, from understanding story theory and structure, to mastering point of view and such basic elements as scene, action, and character, to drafting, revising, and editing work for publication. Revealing the stories behind the stories, Hart brings listeners into the process of developing nonfiction narratives by sharing tips, anecdotes, and recommendations he forged during his decades-long career in journalism.

I greatly enjoyed this book
Revisado: 04-15-21
I don't know how I bought this book, I usually don't buy random content. To my surprise, I really enjoyed learning about a subject that I have no interest in - writing nonfiction (I know, somehow I misread the title). However, the book is so well written and narrated that I could not stop listening to it until the end. Besides, it doesn't matter what you are writing - fiction or nonfiction - the principles of a good story apply to both. Thank you, Jack, for sharing your experience.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Revisado: 03-15-21
It’s a pretty entertaining listen that turned out to be much better than some reviews claimed. This is by no means a literary fiction but if you want to take your mind off things over weekend or just make your long commute less boring, I recommend this book.

Unrealistic
Revisado: 10-06-16
Would you try another book from B. A. Paris and/or Georgia Maguire?
I can not believe this book was rated so high. THe story falls apart after just a few chapters, and nothing in the story is believable. Although it's a contemporary story it feels like it's set somewhere in the 1800s, which was also confusing. The main character, who is supposed to be a strong woman in her 30s (she has a good job and looks after her sister) overnight transforms into a weak incapable of making any decision person, And I think she is more intellectually challanged than her sister, who has Down syndrom.

Any additional comments?
I actually didn't know about this book or rather series of books until I saw the TV show. After watching a few of the TV episodes I realized that it's based on a novel, so I purchased the book. Honestly, it was kind of hard to get into it. But when I finally did, it was impossible to put the book down until the end. I loved the characters, especially detective Miller.
I will definitely buy the rest of the book series. Surprisingly engaging and solid read, good narration.

Historia
Leonora, known to some as Lee and others as Nora, is a reclusive crime writer, unwilling to leave her nest of an apartment unless it is absolutely necessary. When a friend she hasn't seen or spoken to in years unexpectedly invites Nora ( Lee) to a weekend away in an eerie glass house deep in the English countryside, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. Forty-eight hours later, she wakes up in a hospital bed injured but alive, with the knowledge that someone is dead.

I loved it and then I didn't.
Revisado: 08-21-15
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the story, even when the author insisted that Karl Marx was Russian. I am originally from Russia and I know that many people confuse Russia and Germany, but I would expect that someone - an editor? the audio book producer? - would catch the error. Nope. “Dostoyevsky? Lenin? Marx?” This is just terrible.
However, I forgive the author. Let's Marx be Russian. Who cares anyway. But the story just went downhill after Nora escaped from the hospital: predictable and not believable. I think the author, like her main character, just got tired. So very tired...

Almost an exact replication of The Tutor
Revisado: 06-19-15
Any additional comments?
I just finished The Tutor novel by the same author and actually enjoyed it. Picked up this book which turned out to be almost the same replication of The Tutor, only with different antagonists. Also, the narrator's constant swallowing and deep breathing made this audio book less enjoyable.

Any additional comments?
I really not sure what to think of this book. I did like the writing, and even enjoyed the story in places... but somewhere in the middle of the book I wished it would end!. Yet, it just dragged on and on, without any new twists or... anything really. I mean, I can't say, "what a horrible book", because it is not, and the author has created a believably crazy character. However, it bored me to the point of not wanting to listen to it.

Over dramatic
Revisado: 05-07-15
Any additional comments?
I didn't hate the book, I actually enjoyed it - however, it was too much of lip biting, teeth grinding and cheek chewing for my taste. I can't understand why authors think that it's cute when the character suffers through this kind of lip-mouth-face manipulations, considering that prolonged cheek chewing may cause inflammation.

Sad gentle story
Revisado: 02-05-15
Any additional comments?
I didn't want to purchase this book since many comments refer to this book as "depressing". I didn't find it depressing. Yes, it is a sad story, but it is a story you don't want to stop reading, or in the case of the audiobook, playing. The writing is good, the story is well told. The narrator is incredible. I would recommend it to those who doesn't mind tearing up a bit while reading a book.
