Compelling rendition of a great story
Revisado: 02-11-24
The reader did an excellent job of this book - her voice is well suited to the style of the book and she avoided any annoying pronunciation mistakes or other distractions that might detract from the momentum of the story. There were a couple of odd editing flubs where pieces were duplicated but those are minor.

Historia
Set in the 1870s, the same period as Wharton's The Age of Innocence, The Buccaneers is about five wealthy American girls denied entry into New York Society because their parents' money is too new. At the suggestion of their clever governess, the girls sail to London, where they marry lords, earls, and dukes who find their beauty charming—and their wealth extremely useful.

A good listen in spite of the reader’s shortcomings
Revisado: 01-07-24
It’s a great shame that the reader appeared to fail to take the time to learn how to pronounce a surprising number of the names and words in this book. Jarring mispronunciations and a truly atrocious attempt at English accents completely break the spell but fortunately Edith Wharton’s writing saves the day.

Lovely family story
Revisado: 09-30-23
Rosamund Pilcher’s books are like literary comfort food. Soothing, deliciously engaging and wonderfully filling. They create a world where everything is as it should be and so rarely is.
I wish the narrator had taken more care over her pronunciation of a surprising number of words that I would have expected either her or the editors to have known but overall it was a good narration and well read.

Engaging story, wonderful reading - great!
Revisado: 05-24-23
Steve Shanahan reads this engaging story perfectly - he gets the mood and nuances spot on and does Jane Harper proud in terms of getting her book out in audio spot on. The book has been a favorite since it first came out and it’s a delight to have it read this well - I literally carry my phone round the house so I can keep listening Thank you!!
