Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

So Authentic - Just Brilliant!
Revisado: 06-11-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this read from beginning to end; so much so, that I listened to it TWICE just to make sure I did not miss anything. The last chapter is a master class on grief. Thank you.
"Bits and Pieces" is informative, educational, entertaining, heartfelt, uplifting and motivational all at once. I kept thinking - I love her mother. The love Whoopi has for her mother and brother is so deep and could be felt, admired and appreciated in her every word about them. Thanks for being so authentic and bearing your truth. BRAVO!

Historia
Myrlie Louise Beasley met Medgar Evers on her first day of college. They fell in love at first sight, married just one year later, and Myrlie left school to focus on their growing family. Medgar became the field secretary for the Mississippi branch of the NAACP, charged with beating back the most intractable and violent resistance to black voting rights in the country. Myrlie served as Medgar’s secretary and confidant, working hand in hand with him as they struggled against public accommodations and school segregation, lynching, violence, and sheer despair within their state’s “black belt.”

Historia
Evangelical Christians are perhaps the most polarizing—and least understood—people living in America today. In his seminal new book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, journalist Tim Alberta, himself a practicing Christian and the son of an evangelical pastor, paints an expansive and profoundly troubling portrait of the American evangelical movement.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Sad History - But True
Revisado: 01-24-24
We all lived this terrifying and sad history, and saw it with our own eyes. It's a sad truth. Liz Cheney is brave and courageous, and I admire her for taking a patriotic stand to put our country first, above the Republican party, and her own political ambition. Bravo and thank you!

Historia
At once a powerful evocation of his early life in Harlem and a disturbing examination of the consequences of racial injustice to both the individual and the body politic, James Baldwin galvanized the nation in the early days of the civil rights movement with this eloquent manifesto. The Fire Next Time stands as one of the essential works of our literature.

Quintessential Baldwin!
Revisado: 02-17-23
No one can deliver like James Baldwin. He always tells it like it is and challenge conventional thought with depth and greater insight.
His writing is raw, strong, and truth in your face that pierces your soul - with a sprinkle of hope for humanity, IF only we will allow ourselves to embrace real truth - the good, the bad and the ugly, and show earnest compassion and human decency for ourselves and others. The narrator, Jesse L. Martin did an awesome job, and Baldwin still rules!

Historia
A soul-stirring new musical conceived by New York Times best-selling novelist Jodi Picoult and playwright Timothy Allen McDonald, Breathe places listeners inside the walls of five homes during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filled with songs and vignettes that examine new relationships, rekindling flames, parenting, racial reckoning, and grief during a pandemic, this incredibly timely world premiere—written and produced online in 2020 in real-time as events unfolded—reflects the very topics that weighed on the hearts and minds of Americans.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

WE BELIEVE HARRY - NOT THE BRITISH MEDIA
Revisado: 01-18-23
From the beginning of the book to the epilogue, it was spellbounding, informative, heartfelt, resonating, and understood. All the attacks on Prince Harry and Meghan by the British Media, were dubious before reading SPARE, but after hearing Prince Harry in his own words, tell his life story and truth from his heart, it became evident that the British Media has often waged a systematic character attack against the spare royal, taking things out of context and waging a relentless false narrative media smear against Harry, and also Meghan - his wife. No wonder Harry and Meghan left the UK and are HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL here in America. Kudos to them!

Riveting!
Revisado: 12-14-22
This book has been on my wish list for at least a couple of years, or so, but I had not purchased it. Then I heard Trevor's farewell on the Daily Show, and knew I had to hear his story about his mother, Patricia. I can kick myself for taking so long to read this book. I started listening and could not stop. Every chapter is a learning lesson, every story so very well told. So glad Trevor's mother prayers were answered.

A Great Reminder of Judicial Integrity
Revisado: 11-02-22
There is no one like Tim Russert. This interview of justices Scalia, O'Connor and Beyer was April 2005, and they were so respectful of each other - even when they disagreed.
I would venture to say, in today's political and judicial climate, it would be impossible to have three Supreme Court Justices in this current (2022) Supreme Court be able to sit down together and be collegial.
it was great to hear how it used to be.

Interesting to listen to this History
Revisado: 10-27-22
I found this audio to be very Interesting and a reminder of how much things have changed. The Presidential Inauguration was narrated and all the surroundings of the event were described in detail. Radio at its finest! Hearing the narrator constantly refer to the First Lady by her first name "Mamie" was a stark contrast to present today formality.
