Garbage
Revisado: 01-29-24
Juvenile, repetitive, sleezy. You could make a drinking game using the phrase “silver-eyed devil”. Luckily you’d be totally drunk by chapter two so you wouldn’t remember most of this travesty.

Historia
From Daniel Mallory Ortberg comes a collection of darkly mischievous stories based on classic fairy tales. Adapted from his beloved Children's Stories Made Horrific series, The Merry Spinster takes up the trademark wit that endeared Ortberg to listeners of both The Toast and his best-selling debut Texts from Jane Eyre. Sinister and inviting, familiar and alien all at the same time, The Merry Spinster updates traditional children's stories and fairy tales with elements of psychological horror, emotional clarity, and a keen sense of feminist mischief.

Total garbage

I will usually push through a book to finish it. Life is too short to endure such drivel. There is nothing original here. And, if the most creative thing you can do is call women “husbands” and men “wives,” you really need to find a different career.
I will say that the narrator is not to blame.

Historia
It is a tale of ghosts, of madness, of revenge - of old alliances giving way to new intrigues. Denmark is changing, shaking off its medieval past. War with Norway is on the horizon. And Hamlet - son of the old king, nephew of the new - becomes increasingly entangled in a web of deception - and murder. Beautifully performed by actor Richard Armitage ("Thorin Oakenshield" in the Hobbit films), Hamlet, Prince of Denmark takes Shakespeare’s original into unexpected realms, reinventing a story we thought we knew.

Absolutely Amazing!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! Having seen the play multiple times (and having read the play multiple times) and many movie adaptations, I have to say this is one of the best dramatizations of Hamlet that I have experienced.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel?
Richard Armitage's narration really makes the performance. And it IS a performance, plain and simple. The Audiobook is definitely the way to experience this novel.
Have you listened to any of Richard Armitage’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but I will definitely look into it.
Any additional comments?
This is not to be missed!
