Why a cat?
Revisado: 08-10-17
I bought the first book because of the performer, Amanda Ronconi. I bought the second for the same reason with the added benefit of knowing I enjoyed the first one so much that the author would not let me down. I love fun books that take me away from reality and make me laugh on occasion. I wasn't disappointed, off to buy the next one. But, why a cat?

Historia
Quiet and aloof rock star Jake McKallister and outspoken, vivacious college student Casey Caldwell are polar opposites: Casey is bubbly and talkative; Jake is reclusive. Casey enjoyed a picturesque childhood; Jake’s childhood could only be described as a well-publicized nightmare. Jake’s life revolves around music, and Casey can’t carry a tune.

What a surprise
Revisado: 05-24-17
I bought this book because it was only $1.99 and I had never heard of this author before. I didn't expect anything more than a trivial rock star romance, a quick read. I totally did not expect how things developed, the building of the characters, the seriousness of the storyline. I don't write reviews often (and I read a lot) and never give a synopsis of a book. I simply want to acknowledge an author's work when I am impressed. I loved the humorous flow, the developing relationship and the focus on the family love and support. If I had to put this book in a genre it would be romantic comedy angst. Light, not sappy and tragic.
Definitely using an audible credit for the next book.

Any additional comments?
This was a reluctant purchase due to the fact that I lost interest in Evanovich's writing style. Thankfully, The Heist was void of the usual and overdone slapstick "humor" in which JE crammed her books. This was an easy listen and worth the time and money. Good lazy day read.

Historia
Shyima Hall was born in Egypt on September 29, 1989, the seventh child of desperately poor parents. When she was eight, her parents sold her into slavery. Shyima then moved two hours away to Egypt's capitol city of Cairo to live with a wealthy family and serve them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima's servitude - but her journey to true freedom was far from over.

Unexpected
Revisado: 02-05-15
What made the experience of listening to Hidden Girl the most enjoyable?
It was simple and to the point. This is not a book to be read for entertainment. It is for enlightenment and that's what I got.
What did you like best about this story?
That it wasn't sleazy, violent and not too descriptive. I could see clearly in my mind the places and people without dragging it out. It was so plainly written yet broke my heart. There is a lot to be said about such ability to bring her story to life in such an uncomplicated way. Her emotions came through clearly and embedded them in my soul.
Which character – as performed by Robin Eller – was your favorite?
This was a narrative. It was done very well. The concise pronunciation and lack of any attempt at accent made it feel as though Robin's first language was not English, giving the effect that Shyima could have been the reader.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
While there was nothing horrific physically, on an emotional level I was horrified. I did drop a few tears.
Any additional comments?
This book should be read by everyone for a small insight into a crime which has been ongoing since the beginning of mankind. It would also be a fabulous book to give to a child who is forever complaining about how unfair things are in their life.

He was tall, at least six feet, with dirty blond hair that hung over his eyes. His T-shirt read Nietzsche Is My Homeboy. So, that was Matt. Who Julie Seagles likes. A lot. But there is also Finn. Who she flat out loves. Complicated? Awkward? Completely. But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother’s? This was all supposed to be temporary.

surprised
Revisado: 11-05-14
What did you like best about Flat-Out Love? What did you like least?
I ended up liking the book in the end. However, Julie was an irritating know-it-all who sticks her nose in everyone's business while not seeing her own flaws.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that author made me think of several different theories throughout most of the book, but the most obvious one was the answer. That was a bit of a let down.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator could have used better male voices. That is hard to do and I don't think it distracted me through the entire book.
Was Flat-Out Love worth the listening time?
This is definitely worth the time once you get into it.
Any additional comments?
There is no way I was ever able to like Julie. She forced her own opinions down everyone's throat and treated her own family with disdain. I was disappointed there was no confrontation with her father or that a few other small issues weren't followed through on. I especially hated how Thanksgiving turned out, totally did not expect her horrible behavior there. The best review that sums up my thoughts was written by Nereyda. Check it out and do read the book.

No Strikes, it's a homerun!
Revisado: 11-17-13
What did you love best about Striking Distance?
I have read all of PC's books. This book seems to be so much more from her heart. All of her books feel this way, but, SD, is a couple notches above.
What did you like best about this story?
Ms Clare doesn't simply write a book. She creates characters and scenarios that are complicated, powerful, compassionate and most of all believable. I found myself wanting to add them to my extended family. She weaves characters from previous books into each addition to the I-Team series, keeping them all alive and active. They fit into Striking Distance seamlessly without taking away from the main characters.
The heart and soul Pamela Clare put into this, no matter how difficult it was dealing with issues she herself survived, was insightful and heart wrenching while taking the reader through the struggle both main characters have to move on.
Ms Clare is diligent to distraction with her research. Places, people, cultures and circumstances become so real due to her fine attention to detail.
What does Kaleo Griffith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I have read and listened to SD. Kaleo Griffith brings the depth of emotions to life. His appreciation for Pamela's work is very apparent. I read a review that commented on his portrayal of women's voices being less than acceptable. I have to say that this is true of most every book I've listened to performed by a man. The same is true for women portraying men. HOWEVER, that doesn't distract me from the story or the performance. Mr. Griffith truly gave me much more appreciation for the story. I certainly didn't put the heart into reading the book as I felt from Kaleo's performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There are so many. When Laura first saw Javier at the BBQ. This is hard without spoilers. I will simply say that at the end of the story when Javier gave Laura her heart's desire and the decision Laura made when she got it.
Any additional comments?
I will start out by saying that before you read Striking Distance, pick up First Strike, a novella prequel. SD is a stand alone book, however First Strike enhances the emotion and understanding you will have for the characters. First Strike is much more erotic than Pamela Clare's norm, yet it felt so right.
Now, for my giddiness over the release of this book. It was long awaited. I've counted down the days. I savored it as I read it. I love this book, it exceeded my expectations. I have hard copy, digital and audio.
Drop everything. Buy the book now! It's that good. Then go out and get all of her books, including her historical books, they will knock your socks off.

Have you listened to any of MacLeod Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I can't say that I have heard this performer before, but I really enjoyed it.
Any additional comments?
As always, Mr. Crais delivers a well planned, thoroughly researched and compelling story. I don't write many reviews and hardly ever discuss the content. I'm just here to say...read the book, you won't be sorry.

"I didn't think he wanted me. And I wasn't about to get involved with him, not after what I'd heard. Sure, Alex Kennedy was tall, dark and unbearably hot, but I've been burned before. When I solicited him to model for my erotic photography book, I didn't expect such a heated, passionate photo session. And now that we've crossed that line, our bodies aren't the only things that have been exposed."

Not my usual genre
Revisado: 10-14-10
First, I have to point out the publisher's summary quote: "When I solicited him to model for my erotic photography book, I didn't expect such a heated, passionate photo session.".That is NOT what happened. Did they read the book? That's all I'm going to say, no spoilers.
I read this book based on reviews and I had already read Tempted. I also realized there was a brief recap of the story from Alex's point of view and bought it ebook form. I love getting all character's POV Loved Alex's POV in the short. I felt very strongly about Alex in Tempted, but felt cheated in character development. It was even more so in Naked. I suppose this is because I don't like first person narrative stories, they are so limited. The women in these books got all the attention. We did find out a smidgen about Alex in Tempted but it was glossed over and unexplained in Naked. If you haven't read Tempted be sure to read it first.
The religious issues in the book were annoying and Olivia's mother was not a nice person IMO. If the intent of the book was to accept people for who they are then momma needed to go back to school.
There were some very hot scenes, especially the ones where they don't actually have sex, oral or otherwise. The studio scene was very erotic and well done.
The issues with Teddy and Patrick were left unresolved. I thought there should have been more light shed upon Patrick's deceit. It was totally unfair that Olivia was left holding the blame for all of Patrick's problems and that she never defended herself. That was wimpy, not gallant.
I didn't understand how Olivia got so upset about Jamie and Anne. Sure he didn't give her a head's up on the situation, but way over the top on her reaction. I suppose a conflict to end the book was needed. The end was very abrupt. A bit unrealistic that after her silent treatment and self-righteousness she did a 180 and we had a HEA.
I hated the voice used for Anne!
A very good erotic story, just read it and enjoy, don't over-think it.

Revisado: 12-02-08
This is the third time I am reading this series and it is better each time. I actually planned on just skimming through it but found that I couldn't make myself push the fast forward button. I'm not a fan of in depth descriptions since I like to form my own pictures in my mind, but Mr. Goodkind does it so well that I am enthralled. His characters are incredible and I love the way he builds each one and gives them backgrounds to make them feel so real. I also love the way he deals with the politics of the different lands and how the people behave in each realm. I would definitely recommend reading the entire series. As for some of the comments about the terrible writing here...I don't get it...IMHO it is outstanding. I don't even like this genre, but The Sword of Truth series found it's way to my CD player a few years ago from the library and I've been hooked ever since.
