Not compelling
Revisado: 04-29-25
Not for me. I’ve gotten drawn into the romantasy genre after listening to the Sword of Kaigen and getting some recs from Audible. In spite on myself I have enjoyed series by Carissa Broadbent, and Rebecca Yaros. I just finished the Blood Sworn series and needed something a bit less intense after the intensity of that amazing series. ACOTAR kept coming up in the algorithm on Audible and Booktok. It even came up in one thread I was reading for those suffering from Red Rising book six withdrawal, so I gave it a go. Yikes! The writing is sooooo bad. The story not compelling at all. The characters not interesting or really likable, and the whole thing just utterly forgettable. Perhaps if I’d discovered it as a high school kid I might have been into it, it unfortunately I’m a middle-aged man who has read many much better books. I could continue on to book 2, but life is short and my wishlist is long. If you like the series, more power to ya. Not trying to yuck anyone’s yum, but definitely not for me.

Couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 01-05-23
The story was interesting enough, but I could not get past the portrayal of Holmes. Certainly a flawed character as written by SAD but here he is an overly arrogant, evil, dismissive, a-hole who’s dismissive of the facts rather than interested in examine them. And why Moriarty stuck with the overly violent Colonel as he tried to clear his name: committing crimes to prove your innocence?! Nope. I’m out!
