Historia
Dancer, award-winning choreographer, show producer, stand-up comedienne, TV/film actress, and author, Norma Miller shares her touching historical memoir of Harlem's legendary Savoy Ballroom and the phenomenal music and dance craze that "spread the power of Swing across the world like Wildfire". Great book but horrendous narration
Revisado: 06-10-24
Such a shame that such a great book is narrates by someone who is so terrible. Please re-record it with someone who is an actual professional. I’m switching from to a paper book, it’s torture listening to this. Norma Miller must be rolling in her grave.

Can’t even pronounce Medici correctly
Revisado: 09-25-23
How can you narrate a book on Italian history and keep mispronouncing Medici? Seriously, the narrator should be ashamed of himself. Of course many other Italian names and places are butchered too, but Medici? Come on!

Great fun way to get into learning Italian
Revisado: 10-25-22
I started listening to this podcast about a month ago and I have learned so much. I love how this podcast is structured - it’s so easy to follow for beginners. I listen to it whenever I’m driving, going for walks or just doing stuff around the house. Mark and Francesca make it so much fun to learn the language.

Not much history and full of wrong info
Revisado: 01-10-22
Wow, I wish they would take the word “history” oury of their titles. There isn’t much history. You can get more out of a Google search by spending 5 min reading. Not only that but these girls really don’t know much about anything. In thisnepisode for example they both talk about Angora goats - they admit that they have heard of Angora rabbits but have never heard of Angora goats. Seriously??? How long have you been knitting? Where do you think mohair comes from? At least bother to do a Google search before you release your podcast! When they talk about goats used for Orenburg shawls they sometimes refer to them as goats and sometimes as sheep. Then one of them says that in Russian they call knitting needles “knitting pins”. Where did she get that info - it doesn’t even make any sense! They call it спицы. It’s one word, has nothing to do with pins. Whether knitting or otherwise. I gave up after listening to 2 of these. I think the main purpose of this podcast is to push their knitting patterns - and there’s nothing wrong with that. But come on, at least Google the stuff you’re taking about.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Can’t decide which is worse-the story or narration
Revisado: 08-29-21
I made it through first chapter and started the second one but was really tempted to give up many times. I am an artist and know quite a bit of art history and used to live in NYC for 12 years so you would think I would find this book interesting. No. Everything got on my nerves - the story, the characters, the narration. Then fortunately I decided to read some reviews. What a relief - I’m not the only one who gave up on this book. I’m just glad I didn’t waste any more time on it. Life’s too short.

Historia
From the plains of ancient Mesopotamia to the rolling hills of medieval England to the vast sheep farms of modern-day Australia, sheep have been central to the human story. Starting with our Neolithic ancestors' first forays into sheep-rearing nearly 10,000 years ago, these remarkable animals have fed us, clothed us, changed our diet and languages, helped us to win wars, decorated our homes and financed the conquest of large swathes of the earth.

Not bad but could be much better
Revisado: 05-13-21
This book was quite informative but definitely too much focus on UK. As if other countries don’t exist. So many lost opportunities. Narration was not great - whenever she’s quoting anything she changed her voice and is very annoying and completely unnecessary.

From colorful 30,000-year-old threads found on the floor of a Georgian cave to the Indian calicoes that sparked the Industrial Revolution, The Golden Thread weaves an illuminating story of human ingenuity. Design journalist Kassia St. Clair guides us through the technological advancements and cultural customs that would redefine human civilization - from the fabric that allowed mankind to achieve extraordinary things (traverse the oceans and shatter athletic records) and survive in unlikely places (outer space and the South Pole).

Mixed feelings about this book
Revisado: 05-08-21
Narration is pretty terrible - she sounds like she’s going to burst into tears any minute. As far as the book itself - some chapters were interesting and others go into too much detail about completely irrelevant things - this book is about textiles - do I really want to hear very long descriptions about astronauts eating, urinating and defecating. Chapter about Everest climbers could have been shorter. I’m sure there are a lot of textile related material was completely omitted from the book.

Beautiful. Willful. Charming. Blunt. Grace Coddington’s extraordinary talent and fierce dedication to her work as creative director of Vogue have made her an international icon. Known through much of her career only to those behind the scenes, she might have remained fashion’s best-kept secret were it not for The September Issue, the acclaimed 2009 documentary that turned publicity-averse Grace into a sudden, reluctant celebrity. Grace’s palpable engagement with her work brought a rare insight into the passion that produces many of the magazine’s most memorable shoots.

Disappointing - superficial and boring
Revisado: 04-11-21
I really liked Grace in “September Issue” and was really looking forward to this book. But was so disappointed. It is so empty, superficial and just plain boring. You learn absolutely nothing from it. I stopped after about 3 hours. Her narration is pretty bad too.
