Historia
The vicious decapitation of Stanley Preston, a wealthy, socially ambitious plantation owner, at Bloody Bridge draws Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, into a macabre and increasingly perilous investigation. The discovery near the body of an aged lead coffin strap bearing the inscription King Charles, 1648 suggests a link between this killing and the beheading of the deposed seventeenth-century Stuart monarch.

Another Fantastic St. Cyr Novel
Revisado: 09-23-17
... from C. S. Harris. This story has Jane Austen and her family as characters, which I consider a gift to us readers. Davina Porter continues her outstanding performances which both draw me to the characters and differentiate them.
I’m addicted. The only reason I haven’t bought the most recent St. Cyr is that I don’t want to wait too long to hear the next.

An In Death novel was the first audiobook I ever read
Revisado: 08-28-17
... and I was hooked on J. D. Robb and listening to books. I've listened to every subsequent book in the series and have caught up on most I missed.
Echoes is one of my favorites because the crimes and their solution are a little unusual, and especially because it has relatively more of Dallas and Roark's relationship.
It is their relationship that draws me far more than the crimes. It makes the stories like a fairy tale in which a uber-wealthy, but not jerk, husband looks, says and does everything you dream of, almost always. But he's such a fantasy I never compare him with my husband because no one like him could live on this mortal plain. You can just enjoy the idea of him immensely.
As usual, Susan Erickson's performance was outstanding. She is amazingly able to bring out each character's voice and personality. And the great cast also adds to my enjoyment.

Technically Brilliant
Revisado: 08-20-17
The writing and dialogue are first rate, and the narration allowed me to distinguish characters' voices and brought me into the story. My only problems with Georgette Heyer's books is that they can get a little long and the endings seldom satisfy. Still they are almost always entertaining and are great anti-anxiety therapy.

I love the St. Cyr series and this book
Revisado: 07-08-17
C. S. Harris has created a multi-part romantic suspense series full of fascinating stories, compelling--and mostly appealing--characters, and difficult to solve mysteries. Her use of detail to create atmosphere, time and place is remarkable. I've even learned a little American history from the interesting perspective of early 1800s England.
In addition, Davina Porter is my favorite narrator, and she does her usual excellent job of bringing us into the era in which the story is set, and voicing characters who are distinguishable for the listener.
This is the first time I've ever wanted to binge watch OR listen to a series. Only my budget prevents me.

At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him.

One of the best novels ever!
Revisado: 04-27-17
The story was warm, frightening and reaffirming. Even though it covered a difficult situation, the book was heartwarming. One of the most impressive parts was the ending because I kept on wondering how the author could end a book like this, and she did it perfectly.
The narration was outstanding, especially for the little boy, which I assume was done by Michal Friedman. He made the boy real.
A tour de force!

Wowza!
Revisado: 04-27-17
This is the third time I've listened to this first Kristen Ashley book I ever read. I loved it, and after the first time I read it I invited a 30-something friend (I'm 68) to supper to find out whether some new-to-me sexual phrases and attitudes were real. I learned a lot.
Rock Chick Revolution has the qualities and negatives of most of Ashley's books: a fabulous funny and exciting love story, strong maturing female lead, and an excellent narrator, BUT a male lead who would be fantastic if he didn't try to dominate and diminish the female lead so much. She's usually strong enough to do things her own way, but his making absolute demands and calling her "baby" so often make me cringe.
In any case, this is one of my favorite KA books, and I highly recommend it.

Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.

This is a delightful book . . .
Revisado: 01-25-17
Well written, sweet and funny. Still it was written in the early 20th century, and openly expresses prejudices of the day, which are offensive. It's not that these attitudes have necessarily changed, it's just that today -- at least till very recently -- it's been less acceptable to express them.
I love this book and have listened to it often, when I need a pick-me-up.

The Narrator Did It?
Revisado: 01-16-17
I think I would have liked this book better if the narrator hadn't yelled and overdramatized it. The mystery was well done, and I didn't guess the villain which I appreciated. It was only a relatively small part of the story. The S&M part of the story seemed good but listening was difficult because of the yelling and overdramatization. Stories on this topic don't need extra stimulation.

Amazing story!
Revisado: 01-15-17
A fascinating life that makes his accomplishments so far seem all the more impressive.
This is an outstanding book, made so much more impactful and interesting, because Trevor Noah decided to narrate it himself. Among other things, hearing the different African languages and his ease in moving from one to others enhanced my ability to understand his success in life. This book focused most on his upbringing by his amazing mother. In a future book I'd like to hear how he handled his transition from extreme poverty and isolation to success and worldwide popularity. I will read this again!
