Historia
The locals in the southern Italian town where he lives call him Signor Farfalla - Mr. Butterfly - for he is a discreet gentleman who paints rare butterflies. His life is inconspicuous: mornings are spent brushing at a canvas, afternoons idling in the cafés, and evenings talking with his friend, the town priest, over a glass of brandy. Yet there are other sides to this gentleman’s life.... Part thriller, part character study, part drama of deceit and self-betrayal, The American shows Martin Booth at the very height of his powers.

Heir to Stephen King?
Revisado: 10-07-21
Andrew Pyper's prose is exquisite. The narrative is reminiscent of recent Stephen King novels. If the story had slightly more complexity, it would be the vanguard of the next generation of thrill writing.

decent, but not gripping.

this wasn't a typical Stephen King novel because they were no mystical or paranormal elements. it reads well and includes good character development.

Historia
Recruited as a codebreaker of enemy ciphers, ex-debutante Osla Kendall spends her days translating Axis military messages and her nights reading mystery novels. When Osla gets her hands on Agatha Christie's most recent work, N or M?, a mysterious signal within its pages catches her eye, and she and her eccentric book club get in touch with the famous but reclusive writer. Osla's outreach is a welcome distraction for Agatha, who feels restless and underestimated toiling away in a London pharmacy.

Timeless story, awesome narrator
Revisado: 11-07-20
Animal Farm is a classic work of literature because it speaks to all people in all periods, warning of the dangers of authoritarianism. It's a good reminder of just how the slide toward authoritarianism can happen anywhere, to anyone.
I absolutely love Ralph Cosham's reading. He's a loadstone of the audiobook medium. Check out his work here and elsewhere!

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

New view on human history
Revisado: 01-05-17
This is a fresh look at an old topic. The first few chapters on pre-history are slow and predictable, but the latter sections provide an enlightened perspective on modern human systems such as science, empire, and capitalism. The part on Capitalism is particularly strong. Readers can skip the first parts and not miss much. Recommended.

Historia
My name is Hope Arden, and you won't know who I am. But we've met before—a thousand times. It started when I was 16 years old. A father forgetting to drive me to school. A mother setting the table for three, not four. A friend who looks at me and sees a stranger. No matter what I do, the words I say, the crimes I commit, you will never remember who I am. That makes my life difficult. It also makes me dangerous. The Sudden Appearance of Hope is a riveting and heartbreaking exploration of identity and existence, about a forgotten girl whose story will stay with you forever.

Revisado: 01-05-17
Like all Clair North's work, this is one novel that will make you think: make you think of the possibility, the implications, the impact one could have with the power of the hero. Written with modern mastery and intelligence, narrated by a pro, this is one book that should not be missed.
