Historia
Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected, also, that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with a drug overdose. But the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information. Unfortunately, before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death.

I didn’t that coming!
Revisado: 07-15-23
The headline applies to about a dozen parts of the book. Agatha Christie is still the best. I love stories set in this time period. Even the criminals have perfect manners.

If you love vintage mystery you have to listen to this!
Revisado: 06-23-23
The mystery itself is brilliant. The setting and period dialogue are wonderful. I never would have figured out the crime on my own, and the ending is the best of all the mysteries I have ever read or listened to. The narrator is excellent, which makes the production all the more enjoyable. I enjoyed it so much I listened twice.

Historia
Bernard Cornwell, the New York Times best-selling "reigning king of historical fiction" (USA Today), tackles his most thrilling, rich, and enthralling subject yet - the heroic tale of Agincourt. The epic battle immortalized by William Shakespeare in his classic Henry V is the background for this breathtaking tale of heroism, love, devotion, and duty from the legendary author of the Richard Sharpe novels and the Saxon Tales.

Food for the history buff
Revisado: 10-13-22
It almost feels like a waste of time to add to the thousands of four and five star reviews, but I enjoyed it so much that I had to add a review. I have sat in the parking garage at my office, and the parking lots at the gym and the grocery store because I didn’t want to turn it off. The only reason I wasn’t sad to reach the end is because there are so many other books by the same author. I have already downloaded the Winter King.

Historia
When Juan Cabrillo fails to capture the leader of Mexico’s most dangerous drug cartel and loses an Oregon crew member in the process, he’s determined to get revenge. Little does he know that the explosion he just narrowly escaped was merely the latest flash of violence from a machine of war that has existed for decades, dating from the bloodiest episode in Armenia’s history.

An excellent adventure – as good as all the other Clive Cussler books
Revisado: 09-21-22
I think I have either read, or listened to all the Clive Cussler books, including the nonfiction. This is easily as good as the ones he wrote himself. The continuity of characters, and the nature of the adventures, mirrors his own works. Scott Brick does his always outstanding job with the characters and dialects. I eagerly await the next book.

Historia
In the United States, teenagers can focus on one task for only sixty-five seconds at a time, and office workers average only three minutes. Like so many of us, Johann Hari was finding that constantly switching from device to device and tab to tab was a diminishing and depressing way to live. He tried all sorts of self-help solutions—even abandoning his phone for three months—but nothing seemed to work. So Hari went on an epic journey across the world to interview the leading experts on human attention—and he discovered that everything we think we know about this crisis is wrong.

A list of problems, no solutions
Revisado: 03-10-22
Based on his interview with Tucker Carlson, I was expecting a discussion of the problems that have come from tech saturation, and then a discussion of potential solutions. What I got was a list of social ills, global warming, and support for unionization. Not what I wanted or expected.

Written by a Trump hating Obama worshiper
Revisado: 04-14-21
I sensed early on that this would be an anti-Trump book, but it got much worse as the book went on. By chapter nine I couldn't listen anymore. It contains stories about Trump that have been disproven, and fawns over Obama to the point of being sickening.
Much of the book is very interesting and entertaining, but the over-the-top bias finally did it in for me. I was hoping to return it, but apparently it isn't eligible.

Historia
When Strangers Meet argues for the pleasures and transformative possibility of talking to people you don't know. Our lives are increasingly insular. We are in a hurry; our heads are down, minds elsewhere; we hear only the voices we already recognize and rarely take the effort to experience something or someone new. Talking to a stranger pulls you into a shared humanity. It's a source of creative energy. It opens your world, and it cements your relationship to the places you live and work and play.

No relevance for me...
Revisado: 09-13-19
I was looking for a book that would help me start conversations with people I don't know - something I am very uncomfortable doing. This book started with promise, but every example seems to be from New York, and often on a subway. Many of the examples were the author's encounters with people she met on the streets in New York that might have initially been preceived as a threat to her safety. None of that applies to my situation, or to the reason I bought the book. Then she told me I was (actually all of us are) the product of institutional racism and white privelege, That did it for me. I would have returned the book, but that option wasn't offered.

Mitch Rapp is used to winning. But in this follow-up to number-one New York Times best-selling The Survivor, the CIA operative finds himself chasing false leads from continent to continent in an effort to keep Pakistani nukes from falling into the hands of terrorists. Together with friend and colleague Scott Coleman, Rapp struggles to prevent the loss of these lethal weapons, particularly because Russia is also interested in the nukes, though not for the same reason as Rapp and Coleman.

Mr. Flynn would be proud of this one.
Revisado: 11-03-16
If you could sum up Order to Kill in three words, what would they be?
Exciting, timely, satisfying
What was one of the most memorable moments of Order to Kill?
When Mitch threw the corrupt foreign military officer out of the helicopter in flight.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The drama and personality of the characters. Any book Mr. Guidall narrates is better for having him.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The respect Mitch showed to the woman given to him in the Iraqi village.
Any additional comments?
It may seem corny, but I like the Mitch Rapp books because the good guys always win, and the bad guys always die.
