Historia
Jamie Fiore Higgins became one of the few women at the highest ranks of Goldman Sachs. Spurred on by the obligation she felt to her working-class immigrant family, she rose through the ranks and saw it all: out-of-control, lavish parties flowing with never-ending drinks; affairs flouted in the office; rampant drug use; and most pervasively, a discriminatory culture that seemed designed to hold back the few women and people of color employed at the company.

Couldn't put it down. If you work for a large corporation, especially as a woman or minority, you will find this extraordinarily relatable.

Historia
There is an unofficial rule for success: You need to change who you are to achieve greatness. But it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you could leverage your so-called vices and shortcomings and make them your super powers? Rare Breed is an unorthodox business book for the rebels, outsiders, and provocateurs - anyone with the ambition to lead, create, inspire and provoke change on your own terms by owning all of who you are, not just the pretty parts. But be careful, each virtue has a seductive and dualistic nature that can lead to success or sabotage.

Not Fully Developed
Revisado: 04-26-22
This felt disjointed at times. The "rare breed" they speak of is multiple personality characteristics that I think rarely occur in one person (or naturally). The message behind this being if you are that rare breed you will be successful because you are, it doesn't speak to the fact that a majority of those characteristics are developed through discipline, not an inherent quality someone is born into, and the book didn't talk at all about how to better develop those important characteristics. I also didn't like the air of arrogance. That ultimately the "rare breed" will know best because they think and act differently than the status quo. It is very easy to point out instances where you were correct when others said otherwise in retrospect without providing context of the times that you were wrong and others were right. Maybe it is just me, but the authors felt immature, and were only checking the box of "writing a business book" to feel even more successful. I personally wouldn't recommend this one.

Too Basic
Revisado: 03-05-22
Everything in this book is common sense. It feels like the author googled a Buzz Feed article and then fleshed it out to make his book. His style is also very shameful and doesn't address the core reasons people are procrastinating. I love reading motivational and self help books, and this is easily one of the worst out of the near hundred I have read. I wouldn't waste money on this.

Historia
In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept?

Good information, TERRIBLE music overlays.
Revisado: 02-12-22
I loved the content for the most part, but seriously struggled to get through because for some reason they decided it was a good idea to overlay music at all the chapter beginnings. Super difficult to focus on the information and the music carried over far too long. (Shouldn't have been there in the first place, total distraction). A little biased, but very interesting read. would have been 100x better if they just kept it an audiobook vs trying to add in the additional sound elements.

Exploiting stories for juicy content
Revisado: 05-17-21
I wouldn't recommend this. It felt very problematic with how Mel dug into deep issues in a way that felt more like she was just trying to get thrilling content for her show, and not like she was actually trying to help the participants. There were a couple of gems you could glean, but I seriously hope all of these people went and got actual help after these sessions, and that the things Mel encouraged them to share in such a public format doesn't damage their relationships going forward. Maybe I am just learning Mel is not my favorite (I liked her book, hence purchasing this series), but I personally wouldn't spend money on her content in the future.
