Historia
It's June 2008 and 21-year-old Adam Lattimer vanishes, presumed dead. The strain of his disappearance breaks his already fragile family. Ten years later, with his mother deceased and siblings scattered across the globe, Adam turns up unannounced at the family home. His siblings return reluctantly to Spanish Cove, but Adam's reappearance poses more questions than answers. The past is a tangled web of deceit. And, as tension builds, it's apparent somebody has planned murderous revenge for the events of 10 years ago.

Struggled through this one
Revisado: 07-19-24
I love Jo Spain books, and Aoife is my favorite female narrator (she did a wonderful job as usual), but I really struggled to get to the end of this one. The writing is still wonderful but the story was just really long and a bit boring (gosh I hate saying that)… If it’s free or discounted, you might enjoy it to pass time, but I’m annoyed I spent a credit on this one.

Fantastic story and narration
Revisado: 06-06-24
Jo Spain has quickly become one of my favorites. The dialogue and character interactions are so well done. Her protagonists are always very relatable in both their thoughts and behaviors. This is another story full of twists and turns and really left me guessing ‘til the end. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, as well as the usual fantastic performance by Jasmine Blackborow.

Good storytelling but lots of holes
Revisado: 08-17-23
I really like this author, these characters…and I love this narrator, however, this story felt rushed and left a lot of loose ends. We never really get an answer on the motivation behind everything (like, the author forgot to wrap up the crime), and while I appreciate that author doesn’t make this too sappy or romantic, it seems that she forgets to do something with the main character’s love interest at the end of every book. He sort of disappears. Like in this one, he was literally written into a “scene” and then, never shows up again after the climax of the story.

Loved this book and performer just as much as the first! Cool and pleasing voice, perfectly engineered recording and a gripping story by the author. Highly recommend!

New favorite writer and reader
Revisado: 03-04-22
I have never been able to get into Audible. I’m picky about the performers/actors. Every time I’ve done a trial or payed for a month, it’s been a waste for me. Well, another opp for a free trial presented itself, and this book was free in the premiere/plus catalogue. The reader drew me in immediately. Her voice and Irish accent is cool and pleasing and the audio quality of the performance is nearly perfect. She does a wonderful job portraying all the “speaking” characters without overdoing it.
Add to that, the writer is absolutely wonderful. She is detailed enough to draw a vivid picture but without boring the reader/listener with mundane garbage (as other writers often do). The characters are so well developed, and the crimes, even if you think you have it all figured out, go deeper and are more complex than you could’ve imagined. Really great and thorough storytelling. I’ve already read Dervla’s second Cormac Reilly book after The Ruin drew me in! Can’t wait for the third and sad that there won’t be a fourth!
