Historia
Blythe Connor doesn't want history to repeat itself. Violet is her first child and she will give her daughter all the love she deserves. All the love that her own mother withheld. But firstborns are never easy. And Violet is demanding and fretful. She never smiles. Soon Blythe believes she can do no right - that something's very wrong. Either with her daughter, or herself. Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining it. But Violet's different with him. And he can't understand what Blythe suffered as a child. No one can. Blythe wants to be a good mother.

Simply superb. Best book I've read in a year
Revisado: 01-02-23
This is one of those books which will stay with me for a very long time. Quite haunting and almost difficult to read at times but also impossible to put down! I absolutely loved it and the narrator was perfect.

Awful
Revisado: 10-05-22
I honestly never leave a negative review like this as most books I listen to have some redeeming qualities. I also am that person who finishes a book no matter what. Not this book. I couldnt even make it to halfway! Cannot understand the hype. Basic story line. terrible language.

Historia
Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the prestigious Belmont Academy. Everyone thinks he's brilliant. Only you know the truth. They all smile when he tells us his wife couldn't be more proud - though, if they stopped to think, they would realise no one has seen her in a while. They're impressed when he doesn't let anything distract him - even the tragic death of a school parent. Even when the whispers start, saying it was murder. You're sure Teddy is hiding something about what happened that day. You're sure you can prove it.

Historia

He had reached Timbuktu, in Mali, when he was captured, along with a Dutch and a Swedish national, by Al Qaeda Islamist militants. Steve was taken because he held a British passport. He was subsequently held hostage at various camps in the Sahara Desert in the north-west of Africa for nearly six years before eventually being released.

A most entertaining read. I must say though that I could listen to most things by this particular narrator, Georgia Maguire. She is superb with the accents she does.

Historia
All through her childhood in Tehran, Forugh Farrokhzad is told that Persian daughters should be quiet and modest. She is taught only to obey, but she always finds ways to rebel - gossiping with her sister among the fragrant roses of her mother's walled garden, venturing to the forbidden rooftop to roughhouse with her three brothers, writing poems to impress her strict, disapproving father, and sneaking out to flirt with a teenage paramour over café glacé. During the summer of 1950, Forugh's passion for poetry takes flight - and tradition seeks to clip her wings.

Historia
The Center for women's reproductive health offers a last chance at hope - but nobody ends up there by choice. Its very existence is controversial, and to the demonstrators who barricade the building every day, the service it offers is no different from legalised murder. Now life and death decisions are being made horrifyingly real: a lone protester with a gun has taken the staff, patients and visitors hostage.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

I read this book several years ago and when I saw it on Audible, I had to listen to it. Probably even better. it's so nice to read a book with such positive vibes. I'm fascinated by the whole Scandinavian culture and this book gives insight into so many aspects of the Danish culture and lifestyle. I'm now going to listen to her next book "Leap Year"
