Thank you Rabbi for these 9 important lessons. I will try to remember what you’ve taught me in these hours of listening and live my life accordingly. There were wise words for those who doubt and those with faith. Those who despair and they who are happy. As aren’t we all these at one time or another?

Historia
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

I enjoyed listening but there was no mystery. I knew the big question answers early on and she didn't answer some of the small questions. I felt disappointed when it ended. The readers were good but I expected more from the writer.

A long winding road well worth taking
Revisado: 04-29-16
Beautifully written, beautifully read. Loved the reader's pronunciation of words and character voices. Even though I figured out part of the mystery early on there were still enough twists and turns to keep me spellbound and anxious to hear all of it. I loved going back and forth in time and getting the story from several points of view. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves mysteries. You won't be disappointed.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Important information that you should know
Revisado: 04-27-16
A little dated now but still very important information about the way we eat and how our food comes about. Loved hearing about the "grass" farmer. It's going to change how I look at food and what I eat from now on. The reader mispronounced some words and was slightly monotone but it's a long book and I made it through.

Should have been edited for reading
Revisado: 11-17-15
Too many he said, she said, he asked, etc. should have cut those. Performance suffered from terrible Spanish accent mispronouncing Oscar. Story a bit trite but can see appeal to young adults. Especially those questioning their sexual orientation.

Sissy Spacek makes this great
Revisado: 11-03-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. It's better than reading the book. I tried to read it because it's so famous, but I found it difficult. Listening to Sissy Spacek read it made it into a performance.
What was one of the most memorable moments of To Kill a Mockingbird?
The children walking home from the school pageant was probably one of the most memorable moments of the book.
Have you listened to any of Sissy Spacek’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've sought out books that she reads. Coal Miner's Daughter (Loretta Lynn's story) and her own book about her extraordinary ordinary life. Everything she reads is golden. And her own book was unbelievably well written and interesting. She's got a terrific voice, is a fantastic actress and very well suited to reading books for audio. I could listen to her voice all day long (and I have!).
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A little girl's view of her early life

Good read for trail collectors
Revisado: 11-03-15
If you could sum up A Walk for Sunshine in three words, what would they be?
put you there
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Walk for Sunshine?
when he brought residents from the Sunshine Center out to walk
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
realizing that his brother would never be able to share in his walk, and yet feeling that he was connected to him providing inspiration was lovely
Any additional comments?
I've read many books about walking long trails. The reasons that people walk are always interesting. This was the first I read about someone raising money for a great cause that was completely personal to him. He described his walk vividly so that I felt like I took every step with him. This is important to me because I aspire to walk one of these long trails but so far have just been reading about them.

Historia
In her delightful and moving memoir, Sissy Spacek writes about her idyllic, barefoot childhood in a small East Texas town, with the clarity and wisdom that comes from never losing sight of her roots. Descended from industrious Czech immigrants and threadbare southern gentility, she grew up a tomboy, tagging along with two older brothers and absorbing grace and grit from her remarkable parents, who taught her that she could do anything.

She acts. She sings. She writes. Sissy Spacek can do everything. Well. Loved her book. She told all the stories I wanted to hear. I love her voice. Would listen to her read anything. Loved her reading of TKAM. She seems like she's a real person and a good mother. I admire her. Will now watch and enjoy all of her movies again knowing more about how each one was made.

Historia
Twenty years ago, with The End of Nature, Bill McKibben offered one of the earliest warnings about global warming. Those warnings went mostly unheeded; now, he insists, we need to acknowledge that we've waited too long, and that massive change is not only unavoidable but already under way. Our old familiar globe is suddenly melting, drying, acidifying, flooding, and burning in ways that no human has ever seen.

Everyone need to read this!
Revisado: 04-28-15
It'll depress you to hear how we've messed up our old planet but we need to do what we can not to make it worse. I feel energized and ready to make some changes. Everyone else should too! My only complaint about the reading is the attempts to affect accents when quoting others. I'd say better to get someone who can do that or just don't try. It detracted from the performance.
