Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

kind of slow
Revisado: 02-13-25
Too much unnecessary parts that are meaningless to the entire saga and not very entertaining.

Historia
Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Great story premise but too many other issues
Revisado: 01-28-25
I like the premise of this story and it has a lot of interesting avenues to explore
BUT ....
The story itself isn't very well written and the voice/accent of the person doing the reading is quite annoying after a few hours.
The story itself is very slow-placed and the story is EXTREMELY REPETITIVE. The supposed humorous back and forth between the main character and the arrogant AI system name "Skippy" is tedious at best. The author seems to fancy himself some sort of a comedian inserting mostly useless and ill-timed humor in these conversations that repeats the same topics over and over and over and over and over and over, well you get it.
If the author only repeated the same joke a hundred times rather than two hundred times during each book, it might ALMOST be funny. Couple that with the annoying voice/accent of the reader and it makes it hard to listen to the story for more than an hour or so at a time and even that is pushing it. It's gotten to the point that I am fast-forwarding past most of the alleged humorous back-and-forth dialogue between the main character and the AI system. I do have to go back a few times when the author suddenly decides to change the dialogue to important parts of the story but it is worth it to avoid the insanity of what passes off as humor for the author.
The author thinks the big joke of the AI calling the humans, "Monkeys" must be Oscar-worthy comedy or something. If I had to guess, the author has the AI system call the humans, "Monkeys" at least no less than 500 times a book. This is NOT an exaggeration. On top of that is the incessant whining of the AI system ANY AND EVERY TIME the humans have a great idea that the AI didn't think of, is literally insane.
I am partway through the 3rd book and I highly doubt I will purchase the 4th book. That's how annoying this slow-paced and overly repetitive story has become to listen to.
I can't in good conscience recommend this series as very little happens and it seems as if the author is just wasting time with his version of comedy and humor rather than pursuing an actual story that moves along and is interesting. Also, the weapons and defensive systems of the spaceships seem to be very erratic and changes depending upon the situation. There is very little consistency in this story.

Historia
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

Very good author so I wanted to like this but ....
Revisado: 05-25-22
It was very slow, kind of boring, and that made it hard to follow the story. I'm still not all the way thru it and I doubt I will get thru it all. The bizarre names of things and people are a bit annoying and make it hard to follow. You have to think a bit before it clicks who the author is talking about with the bizarre names. There are several stories in this series so I thought it would be better than it was. Others may like it, I didn't. I am a fan of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Time Travel stories so I thought this would be a good one but I was disappointed.

Not as good as the 1st one
Revisado: 11-01-21
Hopefully, the last one picks up the magic of the 1st one. The story /plot arc has gotten too repetitive and sluggish.
