Historia
Young playwright Melina Green has just written a new work inspired by the life of her Elizabethan ancestor Emilia Bassano. But seeing it performed is unlikely, in a theater world where the playing field isn’t level for women. As Melina wonders if she dares risk failure again, her best friend takes the decision out of her hands and submits the play to a festival under a male pseudonym.

Thought Provoking
Revisado: 05-03-25
I was intrigued by the summary… that the work of Shakespeare may not be his work after all, but the work of a woman?? I must read it immediately!!
And I wasn’t disappointed. The parallel stories of Emilia of the past with Melina of present, is told seamlessly. Taking in not only issues of being of woman, but also being a minority - ignored, undervalued, unappreciated, unrecognised for their work.
Even if most of Emilia’s love & life story is predominantly unknown, I can easily imagine that everything she went through in this book is definitely possible. It’s easy to feel for her and every other character.
When I finished the book, obviously I continued to search & read up more about Shakespeare’s “Dark Lady”. So in short, I am grateful for this historical fiction because it has opened my eyes to a possibly new reality in history!

Like listening to best friends
Revisado: 04-21-25
Listening to everything Roxanne & Richard made me feel seen as if they’ve been with me through my life. Their voices are comforting and their words nurturing. This is DEFINITELY a unique book for everyone with ADHD, not the typical how-to (which is fine but offering heart stuff is good too!) I wish this book didn’t end!

A story of sisterhood
Revisado: 04-07-25
This is a beautifully written story about 2 little Iranian girls and their longstanding friendship through the thick of Iran’s sociopolitical history. It is sweet, loving, deep, sad and above all inspiring. I love how rich the characters are, and to have 2 narrators for the main characters was a bonus! Their voices are velvety and magnetic. There was no way to put this Audible down until I was done. What a long journey into Iranian women history and the sisterhood built strong by these powerful unwavering lions. I loved it!

Good Sound Advice
Revisado: 04-02-25
Perhaps (since it is 2025 now) it’s a bit outdated. Having said that Chris has some good advice on starting a solo entrepreneurial journey. Sometimes he gets a bit sale-sy but it is his book after all, of course he can sell his work and community.

Historia
Lina Meisel, a retired librarian in Florida, is reading the newspaper one morning when she freezes. Her eyes lock on a photograph of a book she hasn’t seen in 65 years - a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II - an experience Lina remembers well - and the search to reunite people with the texts stolen from them so long ago. The book in the photograph is one of the most fascinating cases.

A Sweet Story

Overall, this is a sweet love story set in a dark time of history. The storyline and characters were not as compelling as I had hoped but it was a pleasant listen anyways

Beautiful
Revisado: 12-20-24
I am only discovering Kristin Hannah now, and I am loving her. After reading The Women, I picked The Great Alone as my next read. Glad I did! I also adore any book narrated by Julia Whelan. This book is tragic yet loving. Strong yet compassionate and vulnerable characters make up the vivid storyline. Details of the landscape made me Google bore about Alaska…because of this book, I may take a trip there.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Astounding performance!!
Revisado: 12-04-24
I loved every single second of 1984. The actors, the music - bought the story to life, and made it even more thrilling!!
Worth every moment away from my daily mundane existence, for sure :)

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

A unique story
Revisado: 11-30-24
I don’t think I’ve come across a storyline like this in a while. Throughout the book, it looks like it was going one way, then the other, then not at all.
Wedding People is funny yet complex. And the narrator performance was top notch! I really felt like I was there, as part of the wedding people, watching with bated breath at what was gonna unfold next.
Most of my listening time was during my evening bathsoak… as if being with them in the hot tub :) 100% worth having them join me.

Incredibly sweet
Revisado: 11-21-24
First off, after a few chapters I went straight to learning more about Johanna Van Gogh-Bonger… and wow, I am truly grateful for this book shining a light on such a profound woman.
Overall this is a darling of a book, it is lovely, easy to read. I couldn’t help but want to know where these women were going.
It isn’t a deep book, maybe I wanted more from the characters but it was entertaining. I’m surprised it hasn’t been turned into a movie or book yet.
It should :)

I felt the first book was better, but at the same time it was fun to have the league of ladies on a mission again. I got angry/nervous/excited/happy for them all through every chapter!
