Historia
Dan Delgado is a private investigator. When it comes to finding cheating spouses, corporate thieves, or runaway teenagers, he’s unenthusiastic, and unmatched. As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl. By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. The circumstances are strange....

Pretty good
Revisado: 04-27-25
I liked that this author did a great job of finishing up the story so that characters ending stories were revealed.
Sometimes, the story was difficult to follow or put me to sleep, causing me to have to backtrack and listen all over again. Maybe that was the monotone of the narrator though.

Great story but poor ending.
Revisado: 04-13-25
I just hate it when an author goes into tremendous detail describing every detail of a street scene or the apple of characters, only to blow through the ending with barely a couple minutes of time to wrap up the story. Greant's books are great but have poor endings.

Historia
A careful, methodical young data analyst for a California insurance company, John Walker knows when people will marry, at what age they will most likely have children, and when they will die. All signs point to a long successful career---until Max Stillman, a gruff security consultant, appears without warning at the office. It seems a colleague with whom Walker once had an affair has disappeared after paying a very large death benefit to an impostor.

Ending PLEASE!
Revisado: 03-27-25
I have really enjoyed almost all of Thomas Perry's books. This one was really good as well right up to the non-ending. I just really hate it. when an author spends 13 hours of listening time telling a story and then gets to the most important part and only spends 10 minutes on the ending. There were so many things that I wanted to know that were left undone. Mr. Perry could have spent about 30 minutes less time describing the scenery and people on the streets who didn't matter to the story and spent a bit more time on concluding such a good story.
Michael Cramer's monotone voice was acceptable but he could work on modifying his voices for different characters a bit.
I would have given this story at least 4 and 1/2 stars if a little more time had been spent concluding and telling the Fate of the characters involved.

Great Story
Revisado: 08-16-24
Disliked the immature silly antics of Austin as it got really old over time, but his brains made him a valuable character as time went on. By the end of the book, I was hooked for a second book to continue the saga.

A political rant by one of my favorite authors
Revisado: 06-01-24
I have read almost everything Stephen King has written and consider him one of the greatest authors on my era. However, on this book, Mr King decided to show his political bias at every turn. I am a conservative and vote like one but almost everyone I know has had the vaccine and both boosters. Most of those same people consider N95 masks to be very little protection from COVID-19. Stephen King took one of my favorite characters and used her to push his political agenda.
In the future, I will have to read reviews of King novels instead of buying them assuming they will be good. I managed to hold my nose and get through Holly but I almost returned it after a couple chapters.
In my opinion, unless you are an extreme liberal, don't bother with this book.

Paying terrorists only promotes more
Revisado: 10-23-23
(Spoiler ahead)
Unlike The Firm, which was an excellent book, there was no action, no excellent work on Mitches part, and very little character building. Ninety percent of the book covers the difficulty in Mitch getting other people to pay a ransom. The other 10% is good but the ending could have turned out 100% different because there was no exchange that was guaranteed to produce positive results. There was no common sense negotiation at all. The idea was just to pay a ransom to someone they did not know and hope for a good result.
At one point in the book, the thought was that if they paid the money, the kidnappers would just release their victim because they would want to get rid of her, after they had already brutally murdered more people than I could count. Who, in their right mind would trust these thugs. Just John Grisham, I guess.

Historia
To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

Better Story than the TV series!
Revisado: 09-29-23
I downloaded this book after watching the TV series it was based on. In that series, script writers do what they always do and totally change the story in dumb ways.
Unlike some other reviewers, I enjoyed the narration and did not find the narrator to be bad at all. I enjoyed this book so much that I finished in a couple day’s listening.

Long story with a poor ending
Revisado: 05-01-23
Baldachi is incapable of adding any romance to his stories! This book had the potential to be a great read but the ending was less than satisfactory. Do I want to read the next in this series???
